For a while now I have a Nord Rack 2 next to my Access Virus TI Snow.
But I've not used it really at all.
I figured I really wanted the Nord for it's crisp FM sound.
But after some further exploration into my Virus, I have to admit my Virus can do just about the same FM sounds and a much broader variety in FM sounds as well.
Another reason why I'm not using the Nord is because it's Lfo's don't run in sync with Cubase and I get some annoying delay due to buffersize problems.
The latter I have worked out, but my computer can't handle the buffer size settings required for my Nord to run smoothly in sync with Cubase.
So what do you think, keep the Nord for a while and see whatever comes out of it in the future or get rid of it? |

only reason i see to sell it is if you don t use it cause of your workflow , sonically it s one of the best digital synth imo .if you like sounds that really cut through the mix the nord is a good thing to have |

I am a hardware frick, but there are only 2 hardware digital synths worth having: Virus Ti and Waldorf Blofeld.
I had a Nord Lead 2x many years and I have to say...the DIscovery Vst can do about the same...even though I don't really use many Vsts or love them so much... I think you got ur answer |

i thought similiar, anyways i guess it´s a matter of taste. i love them all, for me there´s only access, waldorf and clavia. rockin stuff, but i´d get a nordwave, g2 or anything similiar. i´d keep it, clavia sound is just rockin and not comparable with access or waldorf, they all got a pretty own character i love them for. no need for anything else
the lfos of my blofeld also not sync (is there a way to achieve this without USB-AUDIO transport like access does?), i have to do by ear, i dont mind, not that big deal, trains your hearing btw. so i´d really keep it and play the nord in live situations or stuff there´s a lot one could do with it. create some cool presets ready to go and the goods of this synth compared to the others, the filters i.e. are incredible compared to the blofeld. but i like the blofelds filtering. it´s not massive as long as you dont put some drive on it, often you wont recognize without giving it the typical drive all waldorf instruments need to get that massive organic waldorf sound......
gettin kinda novel, i like them all, wouldnt sell anything of it
cheerz
ps: DSI always worth having a look at. you´re the only one who knows if you could take some use of it or not FUCK GENRES, LOVE MUSIC!!!!

i got nord2 and since i have virus b i use it heaps less..
anyhow i think its more cause the virus has its own effects while you need to add them to nord from other source.. (daw or virus or multi effects)
anyhow nord sounds always great in the mix , rather then in solo.. weird magic or total placebo?

Just realized (actually forgot about it) that Sugarbytes Thesys is just an excelent midi arpeggiator to control my Nord with.
Should definately play around with it.
Although a Blofeld now you've mentioned it is quite cool as well
Well I think I'll keep my Nord for a while, but I might consider the blofeld in the future.
Thanks for your input. |

Djones, I take this your post to raise a question that is also related to Nord 2 Rack (didn´t want to create another post, so we keep the forum a little bit tidier)
Here the question goes:
If you had to choose between Nord Rack 2 and Novation Nova rack, which one would you keep? I really one to learn how to use one upside\down and the only way that works for me is to get rid of one of these 2.
I am not intersted in "keep both" answers, , the balance is leaning towards keeping the Novation Nova ans selling Nord, just want to know what people think.
Thanks

| I'd keep the Nord or go for a Blofeld instead
You should try the Novation V-Station though, which is supposed to be a 100 % copy of the hardware version.
But I don't think the Novation is as good as either the Nord, Blofeld or a Virus B. |

To me the Discovery isn't very concinvcing in copying the Nord sound.
But it definately can make some screaming Nord like leads.
But a 1 on 1 comparisson shows how different the filters (and I think envelopes as well)actually are.

I own a Nova and had a Nord Rack from a friend at home for a few weeks. If I had to choose between them I'd keep the Nord.

Djone, I've been using a Virus Powercore and Nordrack for nearly two years. I really like them both. Discovery is a great VST and I use it too but the Nord seems really more musical to me. If I had to choose between the Virus and the Nord I'd be annoyed but if I had to, I would choose the Virus, this synth is so versatile. I always use it. Also you own a Ti which as a very large palette of sounds. |
