Made a track, then reverse the whole thing and both versions actually sound good. Thought this would be an interesting thing to try sometime and was wondering if it's been done. Thanx!           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Might work with a chillout track, impossible (IMO) with anything dancefloor-oriented; kickdrum /= murdkcik           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Have heard of this concept in classical music. There are some pieces that can be read by players sitting on opposite sides of the same table which are played together to create the composition. Think it's known as harmonic inversion.

An interesting read:

Would be really cool if this could be implemented, but the thought of constant reverse kicks is a bit nauseating. Maybe for ambient/melodic/glitchy stuff?

in the early ninetees we've made lots of tracks (sorta rap)where only the drums, but from a - z where reversed.Occasionaly some samples where reversed or the whole time reversed, but the whole track completely reversed is a cool concept idea.
I had written once lyrics that I rapped reversed.I had to think like reversed by writing etc. That was the hardest task of working etc so far.,rhyming, story from back ,all anticlockwisde (and even in old polish ,not that eazy )
I can imagine that is much easier in pstrance.Really cool           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

Yeah that's true. I think I might just write a chill track with minimal kick drum use and lots of reversed samples so there's reversed and non-reversed sounds when playing it both ways.

@Varun: cool stuff, thanks for the link           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

not the entire track... but in one of the new tracks i'm working on (pigs will fly), i did bounce the leads, burn them to a cd, and recorded it going on fast rewind on a cdj to create sounds for a break... it was inspired by a break sound on another track i just finished up (in a cold place) where i used a filtered/phased/delayed loop of reversed hand drums....

you'll get to hear both at SE, kev...

This turned to be some really interesting research. What we're looking at is a musical palindrome. Wiki had a bunch on it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palendrome

Guess this concepts been a challenge for people through the ages. That double sided Violin piece (known as a Table Canon) happened to be written by Mozart in the 18th Century. Tons of composers followed after all the way to present day... eg. The Stone Roses had palindromic tracks on their first album.

Found no info on electronic music though it's probably out there somewhere.

Supathread! Hope it leads to some kind of creation.

Woo, awesome. I do hope this inspires some producers with better skills than me. It'll be a challenge, but it's something I want to take a shot at eventually.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

with an ambient track, you could actually probably take kevin's idea one step further... write say like a 3-4 min track and then reverse it and copy it on to the end so the track runs normal through it's build and then reverses and plays out on the way back down... then it would actually be a true palindrome, too.

I think reversed from begining of all composition would be a step further too.
Reversing all at finish would be a way though .
Should wkr in every music genre when done properly.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

Shulman's tracks are based on revers channels, mostly on melodies have revers way. Also lot of tech trance producer do that. For example Extrawelt's track contain half channels in tracks with revers effect.
Such a cool thing!
