I'm using Acid since it's first release. It is the best audio sequencing/sample manipulating/real time stretching software ever existed(imho). I have produced hundreds of tracks literally using only Acid and a lot of them were released. It's audio engine/quality is very good.
It's perfect for loop based arrangements if of course you have a lot of samples. But it's midi section completely sucks(again imho).
I thought that after Sony bought Sonic Foundry, the latest release v5.0 would have at least some descent midi section, one that you could work efficiently, cause i wanted to stop using SX and make everything on Acid.
But in my greatest dissapointment again the midi section was not improved almost at all.
As a conclusion i can say that the combination of Acid/Cubase SX(or whatever anyone uses instead) is the most powerfull. Using Acid for audio and Cubase for midi. Of course it's a hassle to swap from program to program but the results are only great. Depending on the style anyone produces and the amount of samples he has in his disposal, Acid can be the main arrangement tool, other times more and other less.
For Psytrance Acid can be the salvation for everyone regarding drum elements, drumloops, effects and many more depending on each one's creativity. Cubase SX or any other descent midi sequencer(in terms of editing, ease of recording it etc.) is necessary since Psytrance is based on musical elements which have to be played live having a wide pallete of synthesizers(hard or soft). And using samples is impossible to create many psy tracks. |

i used acid some time ago around first version and 2º.. i liked a lot because i just needed to make some samples and than playing in acid making the mix its very intuitive.. but the sound quality sucks big time when i changed to logic and saw the huge difrence in sound quality.so i started using only logic. dont have the same wav sequencer but it works good enough for me.
i remeber that in acid there was no problem with the bpm of the samples the program automaticly fixed the tempo without changing the original file with very very gooood sound quality strech. that was the main thing i saw in Acid..
