I saw it 3 times on DVD and one time one the theater.

I really liked the movie.
It's a tough movie cause it's very violent. But still production is top notch, the actors made an excepional performance cause they were very well trained by "BOPE". Not to mention the plot which I thought it was great.

If you liked it you should also check this one out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0340468/
Same director.
And I read in some forum that he's gonna make a movie about synthetic drugs and their connection to raves, drug dealers and the hole 9 yards.

Stay tunned.

I saw it.

Not as good as all hype about it, also didn't find it that much violent. For example, IMO it is worse and less violent than Cidade de Deus ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/ ).

I think it is an average movie, still worth watching for some people. Of course, you must know I'm used to high standards, which means I only say it is good if I really enjoy it and I only really enjoy it if it has more than just some nice scenes.

Some of the points of view presented on the movie are interesting for being unusual, these are the points of view of COPS, so it may be interesting for some here @ isratrance to watch it.

Other than that the acts made a poor performance (maybe with the exception of the Captain Nascimento), and the production is not that strong also (as with many other Brazilian movies).

I think that, for example, Cronicamente Inviável ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0212897/ ), Amarelo Manga ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0333074/ ) and Contra Todos ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0395978/ ) are better than this one.

I suggest people should watch and reach their own opinions.

well for brazilian standards it's an amazing film, for holywood it is kinda dull but people like to see the bad guys and the drugies get what they deserve so it's good fun in the end.

I disagree, that was not what I meant. I think the movie is better than 90% of what comes from Hollywood, mainly because 90% what comes from USA is total shit.

So the movie is worth watching, but not as big as all the hype about it.

i havent watched yet, for some reason i (even tho been a brazillian) always end up watching all those brazillian hits like 2 - 3 years later...I only watched cidade de deus like this year...

and now im in us and cant even download it, so i guess ill have to wait again =p

but speaking as a carioca (and as a flamenguista just for the sake of it hahahaha) i can tell you that the favelas reality, and the BOPE battalion as a mater of fact makes huge part on the local society reality, the first one cause of the both direct or indirect and positive and/or negative influences that it has in your rotine. The second one, beeing always on the media spotlight, is constantly beeing reminded on television and newspaper, mainly with bad news, like innocent ppl dieing, wrong ppl beeing arrested....but some (quite few) times good news, plus you see them on the streets all the time...and quite frequently with their rifles pointed outside the car, IMO a complete lack of respect...

i see no resolution on near future, the society ignores the issue, since the problem most of the times doesnt quite reach them, even tho the favelas and real estates shares most of the time the same neighborhood, only when a rich bastard gets his 10,000$ watch mugged is that he shouts to the world his anger on the current situation....which doesnt solve shizzel anyway...

i belive one solution for rio's issues would be drugs legalization (no, seriously...), it is what brings most of the income to the favelas, which is sponsored directly by the high society, and what generates the gang wars and police surges, you can already consider the beaches legalized territory, it is 98% legaly legalized ( the other 2% beeing actual burocracy and all that "law" bullshit =p) the police knows it, the mayor knows it, the president knows it... it is democracy at it best...

legalization would transform the favelas illegal income into legal income, and allow them to improve and evolve, that way diminishing the alienation and somehow racism enforced by the elitist mob...

my 2 oncas
          un-fucking-believable
