Is it necessary for a good sound that the frequencies of percussion are in harmony with the bass/synths etc.?
Or should the HiHats be clean from melodic frequencies?
Every time I "harmonize" the percs, the beat is more interesting.
Please give any ideas to this topic !

Well, in the real world you don't have this opportunity most of the time. Humanity survived for thousands of years without tuning its percussion instruments. So, obviously, you don't have to do it. But then again - if it's an easy thing to do and it make your track sound better, why not? |

you can use harmonized percs, such as snares etc as layers to build up grooves. Almost using them like instruments. I hear plenty songs like that.
Your bass and kick have to be at least reasonably tuned to get the rolling bass line thing going anyway. |

The best tuning are your ears imo.All other is waste of time/limit of open flowing creativity process.
A short plan that is able to be transformed on the run is ok though.

@wilsanquil :"I'd refer back to the One Rule of Psy:
if it sounds good, it is good - seems like you tried it and it sounded good, so keep on doin it!"
Yes, different situations require different methods of design the sound.
thanks a lot for your opinions!

I try to pick the right drums sounds and if needed pitch them up or down so they blend better...
I dont use a tuner,
though sometimes i use a tuner for my darbuka.
i agree with using your ears method, having a fixed idea to tune someting to some particular note does not always mean it will sound best that way.
btw good fun, automate the pitch for a climax, pitch the hihats or openhat or what ever up a little.. can make some good rush...

Maybe a tiny bit of comb filter on particularly atonal sounds... |
