Hello.
Ive been wondering about this for awhile.
When you play live, do you always mix in harmony?.
Cause then for a live set, you kind of have to plan the root notes of the included tracks so everything fits together.
How do you do?
Hmm wasn't the best articulated but i hope u understand my question

Yes and no. In the beginning of the live set there are tunes that have the same root note, but I change things up as I go further in the set...the BPM go slightly higher as well, for example I am currently sorting out the live set for Saturday in Holland.
And the live set starts from 142 and ends up at 145 BPM. Its 2 hours long so I have time to create a flow, instead of play for only 1 hour and completely slam the dancefloor from start to finish.
Peace out.

Thanks for the answers, dont think i quite got out, what i wanted to ask.
Lets say you play a song which is in the key of G and the next song is in the key of B sharp, wont the mix then become inharmonious?.
Is it okay in a live set/when you mix to just go from one key to another, or do you plan out what songs come after another in order for it to be harmonious mixed?.
If thats the case i have to plan in what keys i should make my tracks in order to fit them well into my live set.

unless you wan to mix kick for kick in a place where there are obvious notes/bassline, you have an awful lot of things to use in your DAW to connect of track with the other...like for example you can have one long moving drone and simply play the next note to change the key accordingly. And people have had no problems mixing tracks that are different key when DJing, if anything it is easier to do in a live set with all the things at your disposal.
Peace out.

what about mixing it in the breaks like lets say its two to three secs of silence or just a simple pad with no real harmony
