Hi everyone!!
I am a little lost to this subject, so i wish u could give me some hints!
"Harmonics, sometimes called partials, are frequencies which are higher than the fundamental and which give a sound its tonal colour. The relationship between the fundamental and its harmonics can be simple or very complex. "

Lets say that my bass is in 132hz (c4) -> fundamental frequency. What frequencies are the harmonics? Should i take of the harmonics(or cut a bit)? Should i keep it?
Help me guys!
Thanx a lot =)

Ok, here goes some tips ...

Hope it helps:

Every sound is made of the Fundamental and all related harmonics...

The Fundamental is the first harmonic and will determine the Pitch of the sound.

All the other harmonics will make "how" it sounds...

The other harmonics frequencies are made of whole number multiples of the Fundamental

Example:

A Fundamental 110Hz
A 2nd Harmonics 220Hz
E 3rd Harmonics 330Hz
A 4th Harmonics 440Hz
C# 5th Harmonics 550Hz
E 6th Harmonics 660Hz
NoNote*7th Harmonics 770Hz
A 8th harmonics 880Hz

Some sounds go up to 20 harmonics....

(*Normally people with strong voice on 7th harm. or a sound generated with strong 7th harm. will sound out of tune)

High frequency harmonics will add brilliance and clarity

Even harmonics add warmth to sound (2nd,4th...)

Odd harmonics can make sound harsh (3rd, 5th...)

20-200Hz - Fundamentals of BASS

200-1000Hz - Fundamentals of most instruments
(also the most sensitive frequencies to human ears)

1000-5000Hz - Fundamentals of high pitched instruments and higher harmonics of the fundamentals of most instruments

5000-20000 Hz - Only Harmonics

Boomz!

Nice explanation on harmonics FluoSamsara!

You can manually increase your harmonic field by simply adding more high or low pitched notes to your riff or melody.

Harmonics have several applications but all related as Fluo said to add clarity or harsh to your sound.

If you're not working on a sound that you don't want to add notes and increase the harmonic field you can use very poupular harmonic generators.

My favorites - BBE Sonic Maximizer for mid and high end frequencies ... Waves RBass for low frequencies ...

Hope it somehow helped you Presets.

Great information! Looking at the harmonizers & sonic mazimizers, it seems that we really don't have control over which harmonics #'s are being affected. For example, I don't see a way to affect only odd harmonics. Are people then doing this by hand? Just wondering what options & methods people may be using....
