finally I've saved up enough cash to buy my 2nd synth. I've been reading reviews on the web, but no real feedback on the products are available.
what synthesizer do you use, and with what software?
or, what synth would you want to use if you could?
thanks for your help, much appreciated

im actually situted in USA now myself. I've got about $300, not much, but i hope good enough for something second hand. i've been searching ebay , but not sure how trustworthy it'll be. do you know of any good second hand stores?
at the moment i use a korg em-1, which has got a drum machine and two part synth. I dont have any software either, and for about a year now, ive been playing the synth live, and recording it using soundforge. thus, i can create minimalistic dark psy (as i call it) using only hardware.
i feel that i can really improve on my style if i could get more sound, and actually edit it. although, i do like the idea of only hardware, makes a live act 'live'
where u situated in usa?           trans vir dood

nolightatend said it well...

aaplegkaart - So you only been composing in soundforge? wow.. you should really try some stuff!

And of course hardware is more fun and more of doing computer music to a live act! but with midi controlers you can simulate that to some extent.

put up some mics, grab a djembe-drum or bongo-drums or any drums... some synths and just jam! hehe that is one of the fun parts of making music.

have you thought of what kind of sounds you want?
complexity or straight on tweaking?

thanks nolightatend
ive been spinning for about 6 years now, and only recently started to write my own tracks, so i dont know much about production.
so this might sound like a silly question, but why do you need a midi controller, cant you just run your synth straight into your soundcard.
and by sequencer you mean software, like cubase or something?
thanks for the information

aaplegkaart,
i live in south florida, and where you live?

anyway sound forge is good only for recording, editing and mastering, for sequencing mixing you will need other soft, like cubase, sonar, but i think acid will do you more good then cubase.

as far as $300 for gear, well it's possible to get dicent piece of gear like roland mc505, alesis micro, korg ms2000r, novation k-station, or even virus a, but you gotta look.

midi controllers: well these are designed to controll external gear: sound modules, rack synths, computers etc. and they are very handy when controlling/playing vst instruments (software replicas of hardware synths). basically since your budget is low (no offence dude) you really better off getting somewhat ok sound card + sequencer program and midi controller. it will be cheaper and but for that money you will get the most out of.

ms-2000r is my choice for $300. great for many styles ranging from hard sounds to soft sounds. i dont have one myself, but its on my shopping list. personally, i'd spend my money on hardware, not software. its just a preference, no real reason behind it.

also, there may be better hardware to buy. you could upgrade your monitors or something. synths arnt always the best choice.           The IsraTrance MySpace Group:

wow, thanks for the responses everybody.
it might sound stupid, but i've already learned more than i knew 2 days ago.
now i need to just find good second hand gear.
concerning pc or mac, is there a big difference with the capability of running certain sequencers (software?)or does anything work on any computer?

if you buy another synth you'll need a mixer to plug them both or, preferably, a soundcard with more than one input

have that in mind before spending           roll a joint or STFU :)

you can buy sound card with one output and just buy mixer with group ch

Group out (from the mixer) > Input in your sound card

and than you can record evry synth you want.
