Yes, like that.. creating interesting contrasts, harmonies, feelings, stories.. Usually it needs wider range of instruments and effects than what only vst(i) format can offer. As an artist there should be no rules when one try to find the result he/she demands.

To me the most important thing is not the working flow, what easier vst's can offer in most cases, but also get hands on more to the instruments for real and feel it as a musician more than as a desktop engineer who mostly just looking for the screen. Looking for more hands on, not only by eyes but more by body (arms, legs and fingers) what hardware can offer more.
Sound itself is a matter of taste, that not should be a place for an argument.           - - - - -

As far as i understand there are vsts that have internal oversampling so you wouldn't need to resample or use different projects.

yes lot use oversampling but i don t think zebra, sylenth largo and probably many great ones .
when it oversample using noise you might see a roll off in the highs cause of the anti aliasing filter with a freqency analyser.

This clip of Moby discussing hardware is pretty interesting. He presents some valid points on why hardware is so intriguing, I think.

What i dont like at the vsts is that when u play some high frequencies the harmonics turn in to noise, very few Vst instrument can make a pleasant sound there, and this frequincies are a must in the psy trance music. This is not the case with analog synths and virtual analog like the nord or virus for example...           VA - Spiritual Science out now!

Wow...that was interesting and cool. Especially his closing statements about how uncool electronic musicians are, hahahaha. Even though his musical output is very up and down, I always liked the guy from interviews and such, he seems like a genuine nice nerd           Check out my album: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/gay-satanic-hippie-tiefenrausch
