another one of these questions... Hardware--
Not many ppl use hardware these days. But in my opinion as well as many others, if your going to have any piece of hardware get a Juno 106 that has been converted to MIDI capable. Next you could get some old analogues from ebay or you could get ahold of a new thing called Virtual Analog/Synthesyzed Analog. It is digital but sounds analog. Analog has a much warmer deepr feel to it imho. Digital is thin and tin like. Other pieces of hardware may include a sequencer, sampler, (Akai makes kick ass samplers) and maybe some modular synths. The thing is to do it complete from hardware would be insanity. It can be done though. My suggestion is looking more towards MIDI Controllers with software. Especially if your new to the Psychedlic Production Scene. Another little hint
The capabilities of computer software has made it so the most incompitant mornic bastard with some simple instruction can produce electronic tracks. Softwares capabilities are endless. And if you know what your doing you can write your own.
Price - Hard vs Soft
This is where we notice the biggest difference between the two. An Access Virus or a Clavia Nord Lead (two Virtual analog synths) can depending on the dealer cost up to 2500$. Avg Price 1500$ for either but still, I have VSTis and softsynths that are just as equally good, that i paid either nothing or very little for. The choice ultimately is up to the individual.

i think that if u want to produce something melodic
only thing u need to buy is midi keyboard and monitors .
the software u can download for free is endless...
this is how most today's musicians work .
at least as i can see that . |

why should you buy expensive equipment when you can make the same with much cheaper programs?

Something about analogue sound :
there will be no "analogue sound" out of
the Juno106 or even moog modular if u record it
directly to SB-Live or Pulsar.
But if u work with fruty-loops only, and u want it
sound "analogue" there is some good ways to do it
like record yo output to tape trough some good
valve dynamic processors and eq's .
Btw, everybody have a Virus or Clavia, so it's better
to spend $2500 on something like API,Telefunken,
Urei,Pultec,GML,AMS or Trident analogue stuff .
Peace. |

If it was possible to get same quality with cheap
programs nobody was spending money
on hardware equipement .
Good equipement is not so cheap , we talking
about big $ here, and if someone spending money
on hardware, it's not because he wants to tweak
some knobs , ofcource a lot of ppl who use Virus
can ask on some forum :
" how to make cool bass with Virus? "
someone will reply :
"easy, just dial preset number x , and here u go"
those ppl can use cheap programs and don't really
need this Virus to make "cool bass" .
nothing personal .
EZ ,
Peace. |

There is no need to convert 106 to midi ,
because every 106 that u find has midi .
Btw, this synth is too overused , there is some new
and usefull analogue stuff at:
www.analoguesolutions.com
check out the Vostok synth.
EZ ,
Peace. |

Using analog hardware, in my opinion, is not a smart thing to do. I've already said it before.
Today most of the virtual analog (and even vsti's) can do exactly the same as real analog synths, and even do it better.
If you really want an analog synth, I suggest you check the Alesis Andromeda. A bit expensive though..

Yeah, not to mention once you've bought that hardware you have to have a midi interface so you can play it via the computer.
Plus, a decent soundcard because you'll need to record it into the computer and the first place manufacturers cut costs on a budget card is in the ADCs.
Plus, you'll need cables.
Plus, you might have latency related monitoring problems if you're connecting it only to that soundcard so you might need a little mixer too.
Suddenly you've spent a whack of cash and added very little to your music making abilities. I agree that it's much cheaper and easier to get a good sequencer, some decent softsynths (like all the NI stuff) and the best monitor speakers you can afford. You'll have the ability to make really cool sounding tracks in no time.
Finally, while on its own an Andromeda might sound better than any softsynth, in a full mix only the most golden eared person is ever going to hear the difference.
Good luck.

the best equipment that you need is your MIND, its must be fresh, loaded with ideas & solutions...
the rest is less important, you can make lots of stuff with various plugins & synths....
PS
a really comfortable chair is needed!

ive said it before and ill say it again. people should actually learn to play these instruments instead of clicking buttons on a damn computer. Can you make the synth sound exactly how you want it? Can you play the riff live or is it sequenced? Anyone can use software guys come on. Musica Divinorum is all software based, damn good song. But its alot more impressive when two guys come out with synths on a rack and shit everywhere just going flippin crazy on stage vs the asshole with the huge mixer and the sequencer on stage.
imho
