Ok im quite new to hardware synths so im kinda lost on how to perform this task. Im using my nord 2x in a track at the moment (using cubase). But I cant figure out how to get my synth to record my MIDI track to the harddrive. I want to be able to use my synth riff without having to actually turn on my synth. Does anybody mind helping me out here?

Midi melodies, riffs or anything midi mean that the host sequencer is reading/playing back the actual sound generated from the hardware synth and tranferred as midi notes/data to the computer. Midi is data and not audio. In other words your hardware synth has to be turned on. If you want it off then you have to record the midi riff in an audio track in real time. This audio track will be saved in your hard disk and it will be played back as any other audio file. In this case your synth can be turned off, if you don't want to use any other sounds from it or you don't use it as master midi keyboard.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

I know what MIDI is...

But I was curious to know if there was a function that would allow me to convert my MIDI riff into an audio file. So I wouldnt have to turn my synth on everytime I wanna do editting/recording. I dont want to record in real time if its not necessary, im horrible at recording in realtime. But im beggining to feel that im there isnt any way of doin this...

Midi riffs can be converted to audio only from VST instruments.

What i do in these cases is record the midi riff in a midi track, quantize it manually most of the times to get it in tempo and then record it.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

Ok,

So I havent really messed with the quantize fucntion since Im still pretty new to cubase. But from the looks of it, it looks like an addition to editing midi notes. But how do you go about recording it? Ive tried to think of every possible way and I cant think of anything that works.

I don't get your question mate... In my studio I just hit "record" and SX records my Nord 2x... what are you asking and what does the quantize function have to do with it?

Well...

The easiest way for me to put it is, I want to turn a MIDI track into a audio track. I dont want to be forced to turn my synth on everytime I want to play the MIDI file. Make sense?

Its called HD recording since its recorded to your harddrive of your computer.
There is NO way to just "convert" your MIDI riff to an audio file. You NEED to record it in realtime.
How can you be bad at recording in realtime?
Its all automatic ???

Just place your MIDI sequences in your MIDI
sequencer. Record CC+ im desired.

After your Synth is playing what u like to capture (record) just check the input levels that they are not CLIPING, and than hit record.

In case the sequence(riff, loop or ho ever u like to call it) has some Reverb or Delay on it make sure you record the tail into its front to get a smoooth sounding loop.

Got iT???

But when he said to record in real time I thought he ment to play along and do a live recording with it. That I cant do without messing up. But thanks for the advice though I appreciate it!
