that thing looks sweet as hell. I'd buy it, but he's gonna be sampling more for live acoustic shows. He has a xylophone pad that sends midi signals. He's gonna be working with an acoustic band with a cello and piano and needs something that just looks standard if you know what I mean.

The V-synth Xt rack is cheaper then the Gt version. However ask him to check out some of those Akai Samplers mpc's ,a 2nd hand mpc 2000 is quite cheap now days. I have no idea of how creative or multilayered you can get with it tho.
My vote still goes for the V-synth , would advise saving up and no regrets later. Im personally planning on including it in my arsenal but its an expensive synth im saving up for
Check out this video for the sampling power it has

Hay Assaf , yea am planning for the Gt , can you post some interesting videos of the Motif Xs , all i saw was this guy just playing random presets off, it has some intelligent system with the Arps tho.And maybe you should contact Roland and ask em whats up with the updates =)

check this out
if you are into built sounds from your voice, and do more experimental stuff than its v-synth all the way, just a one big unique machine, but the xs is just another beast when it comes to sound, power(you got everything from everything), being lazy etc... i played the last generation xs6 on the store, and i think after an hour the seller told me to go its endless!! you can make an album in one day...
