i just made an A/B with a kick made in psykick4, the one is dry and the other is with decapitator on with subtle tweaking, just a gentle push and tone a bit to darker, made it much more sweet , love it

and a kick-bass with the previous kick, first bass is unprossesed then has the decapitator on, i adjust the volume so its about -10/-11 in both clips, but with the decapitator is more sweet i think, with a tweak to the darker tone it fits the timbre better

me it s the oposite of you ,after trying decapitator it sound like a plugin, no 3d thingy , no warmth and it distort like hardware that you push too much...still maybe it s a good plugin if you like what it does and maybe i ddin t tried it on source to make it shine but i was excpeting a lot more (make sure to match loudness when you a/b)
i m gonna ask a friend if i can uplaod a sample of a kick bass processed with analog gears, but gonna take time
gutter if you love decap i wouldn t be suprised you get crazy with a culture vulture (never tried it myslef but it s just a feeling i have, i doubt a lot would buy a hardware box that sound like decap 1000 /2000 euro)
edit: i listened to your second sample and indeed there is something hapening |

i talked to fast it s not that bad in fact but not the color i m looking for warming that why i was a bit disapointed
i drived a distressor just to check and got close with decap but the sample dont do justice to the hardware ,i just cranked the imput and recorded, still tought me some time to get close with decap and the distressor it s not something that make things huge , it s more a powerfull envelop to shape sound .
i didn t ahve much time to tweak but i think they didn t nailed the hardware thing really well, maybe i m wrong..still not a plugins that would make me sell hardware .
i uploaded few bars without driving so u can check with decap but the first bars have analog mojo already

With regards to converters. The RME as mentioned earlier in the the thread is perfectly up to the job of taking several trips in and out of the box to some boutique hardware. It never ceases to amaze me how skewed understanding of signal chain has become in recent years. |

there are ways of getting your sound to be warm and less harsh without turning to outboard. software has come along way lately, and many of the plugin compressor, such as the waves cla bundle, the softube ones and the elysia mpressor model the saturation and harmonic distortion of a high end compressor.
furthermore, there's a vast selection of pure saturation plugins that can be used to give your stuff an analogue feel. if you use pc, look into nebula. it is basically a program which allows people to 'sample' hardware units and the effect that they have on a sound. for eg, people have sampled preamps, hardware eqs, and tape among other things. you can then apply these impulses to your own recordings to make it sound like they were recorded through that preamp or to tape or whatever
also if you have ilok, soundtoys have just released a new plugin which is free for beta testing until the end of jan called 'decapitator'. it is awesome for giving digital sounds a warm analogue edge.
also do not underestime the importance of eq. if you like soft highs and warm lows, then mix this way. roll off the highs of all your parts, boost the lows a bit etc. in the end the 'sound' of hardware that you like is realy just an eq curve the piece is applying to the source material. this is why stuff like nebula works, it can sample how the hardware affects the sound and then apply it to different sources in the software realm

man would love to hear some samples when you get it, just on a simple synth line for example just to hear the mojo.
