ha ha good one. i found this page some time ago and had fun for several hours. if you are low on cash this is the place to get "good" ideas.
to space ninja: in theory it can actually work. if you read carefully the disks are of various age, hence the somewhat mammoth size of the larger ones. the small ones are probably 2,5" laptop hd´s. not sure about it working in real life though.

well according to the webpage it desont have to be different size.. i have couple of old useless hd's. instead of letting them gaining dust, with a little work it can become a speaker
so why not?
the quality supposed to be quite good.

and it is kinda neat seeing the read/write needles in action moving according to teh sound..

it's not a joke. .heh
look, basically every speaker is made of magnet and coils surrounded on top of it.. and some other irrelevant components.

as for magnetism and sound, magnets have north poles and south poles. kinda like positive charge and negative charge. u also know that they attract each other and dis-attract each other. which is a lot how frequencies look like. . this is used to produced sound. after all, sound waves are sounds moving at different frequencies. .

hard disks are basically plates of very high density magnets. which means, high quality sound..

np: 102fm =)
