i'm buying a Dell inspiron 6000..i'm getting the following specs:
Intel® Pentium® M740 (1.73GHz 2MB L2cache 533MHz FSB
1 GB 533mhz DDR2 SDRAM

I can't decide whether its worth it going for a 7200tpm hard disk since its around a $100 more for it..should i instead use this $100 for a 1.86GHz processer? which is more important for making music? thanks for the help..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

processor clock cycle is not everything, the overall performance is greatly affected by other factors too. i'd go for a 7200rpm disk or even 10k if possible.

is it necessary for you to buy a laptop for making music? it's not the best choice for workstation-ish performance.

good luck!

so that means i should spend the extra money on buying a faster hard-disk?

i'm just wondering what will help me more in getting that lil extra performance out of my laptop..my old laptop was a p4 3.0ghz with 1gb of ram but it just used to go haywire when i made music on it for a couple of hours..it would turn into a blow-drier!

as for why it has to be a laptop for making music..its coz i'm going to hotel school and can't afford to buy an extra desktop just for making music!           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

5400 or 7200 does make a huge difference.
Go for the 7200.

you might not,but i do.
And again there is a difference.obviously not if 1 only stereo track is played back.

Anyhow ,a difference exists.

yes there is a big difference in the track count of 5400 compared to a 7200 hd!

go for the 7200 rpm hd ! and todays laptops are more than capable of making full tracks and productions!!

actually it is the other way around .

ANd yes pretty much everyone in here thought that it would still be worth.
0.13 Hrz more for the cpu instead wouldnt make any notable difference.
