check this out. it's a software that allows you to visualise your mixes and easily spot the 'problems' (and fix them with an integrated EQ). looks very promising imho and it got nice reviews from famous sites.
a lot of professionals seem to be using it more and more. quoted "it doesn't eliminate your ears, it just analyzes your music visually, and the results are far more accurate than most people's ears and the results are quicker and you don't waste nearly as many CDR's proofing your music in every system you can find..."
anyone ever tried it? i am downloading the demo atm!

Dowloaded the demo... its VERY appealing to get it...
still surely if you become pro your tracks are mastered for you? (as long as they sound good enough from the start of course) but maybe i'm wrong?
it looks very nice though... but surely you can do this... use the demo, see which freqs look "wrong" and then eq them in another eq... tried it and it seems to work + its not illegal hehe
Peace! |

i believe in softwares like this, it can show things that your ear doesnt noticed but never count on it 100%.

Why this prog then?
You can see it in every spectrum analyzer...

i also think so, you can only trust your ears if you have really really good monitors, if you don´t then this kind of programs can do the job for you |

Billy, i do trust my ears and my monitors. For level of music i produce i don't need more than that. Although it is matter of personal opinion.
Martyn and Mike, basically this application is spectrum analyzer with equalizer built in, which costs only 100$, when similar products are much more expensive. |

I think har bal is mostly a tool 2 make your track (or any track) sound like a track you choose as a reference.
So it should be great for mastering an album or
a compilation let's say...or do a remix on a track.
I'm hardly a good mixer - i like to write tunes and beats and i mix the sounds as good as i can but i know it's far than perfect- so after i finish a track (in the rare occasions this happens) i put it through harbal using a track it's production i like as a reference and i match (almost) the two frequency spectrums, draw a bit here and there till it suits me ,i export the track and ....in the end it sounds a lot better - it gives kind of a "pro" sound.
In order to get good results though samples and synths used should be like those of the reference
track.
Moreover it's very very easy 2 use and it's much cheaper than other programs that do the same thing.
Thumbs up for har bal

IMO all this home mastering is bullshit.
If you can't get your mix sound good enough, then you probably also don't know how to master it correctly.
If you mix is actually good enough, you don't need to master it anyway.

Mike is right here, i see many ppl here speak of home mastering when they can't even seperate two channels correctly. Guys leave mastering to other guys, make music.
Regards Har-Bal, it is stupid phrase but it is good for it's prise. Since noone really buy here anything so it is useless to use it. |

first of all, the word "mastering" is only of use when we talk about rooms with perfect acoustics, equipment that cost much much $$$ and an engineer with experience that most of us will never achieve even at its slightest! it's something that cannot be done by producers in home-studios and therefore i don't believe it is correct to talk about how we 'master' our tracks, simply because we don't master them! we (producers) are trying to get the best mixdown and the cleanest production possible. yet, mastering is always performed on all tracks of a cd when it is about to be released, but from a specialist not us! so don't fool yourselves that you are 'mastering' anything (unless you are one of the few exceptions with well-trained ears, equipment that costs millions and a studio with perfect calibrated acoustics).
just had to make it clear
as for Har-Bal, of course it doesn't 'replace' our ears. ears are and should be the most important factor when judging our mixdowns. but, it can work as a supplement and a further assistant to improve the final outcome. i think we all agree that sometimes it's easier to 'see' something than to 'hear' it. in the end, a really good producer will not find a use for this program. but the rest of us (until we reach that state) might just get some help from it...
