there is another instrument similar to hang called HAPI. it's easier & cheeper to buy one, if you are just like the sound (you will know when you see that )

a friend bought one of these at a didgeridoo festival last year, and they do sound great...and nice to play with the mallets too.

I played Hank Drum this summers in the mountains, a friend bought the Hank from USA, sounds really sweet!

after the official debut at NAMM 2010, the hapi drum "ufo" is available. check out this vid by my friend john pascuzzi. (fyi...he is also the creator and curator of www.oddmusic.com)
damon, they sound very close to a hang (at 1/10th the price). audiophiles will definitely hear a difference between the two instruments, but each has it merits and are unique in their own right.

Sorry but Hapi UFO sounds in 1/10 like a hang :/ And you don't need to be an audiophile to hear that difference.

manu delago on the latest shpongle was a nice addition!
here's a sweet video of manu playing 10 hangs overlaid...
damon your right you don't need to be an audiophile to hear the difference, that was a poor choice of wording. i bet quite a few people wouldn't be able to tell without doing an A/B comparison though. plus if your playing mallets on both the difference might be harder to hear. playing a hang with hands definitely adds a nice human ambience to the sound...
if anyone wants a hang, the 'halo' drum from pantheon steel could be an alternative and might even sound better if you can imagine that! plus they're only $1500 for the time being (only 1500...hee hee) they definitely sound incredible though!
