You all know how a very big part of the trance community is devided into 3 types of trance, Goa, Psychedelic, And now also minimal, And they all prefer to stay in their own styles and not get into the other, So, usually they would all listen to different artists, and never(fanatically) listen to other types of artists, for example: Those who like goa listen to:AP, Those who like psy listen to:X-dream, and those who like minimal listen to:Well let's just say i don't listen to it.
Anyway, what turns out is that the only artist to who all three of these different people with different styles of trance would listen to is HALLUCINOGEN/ShponglE/, and the thing is that they would listen to simon's music not like someone who likes goa would listen to minimal, meaning:"What's that?!!? Turn that off!!! NO, NO that part drives me crazy!!!, I'm gonna through your stereo out of the window if you keep that playing!!!.". And the opposite, But the fact is that, they would really enjoy the music, i don't think there's any other artist out there that actually is capable of doing this except simon posford. Any comments?!?

First of all, I love goatrance, and I don't like AP (Green Nuns are the best example for pure goa spirit, IMO), and the rest of those stereotypes are just WRONG.
Second, people can like all 3 styles. I prefer goa over psy, and both over minimal, but minimal has it's place and can be very intelligent and moving music. Of course it won't have the goa spirit or the psy richness, but it has other strong points as well.
As for Posford, well, he is a genius (and remember Celtic Cross and a few other side projects as well), but he's not the only musical genius out there :)... Nearly everyone in the trance world loves Koxbox, Son Kite, GMS and other big names even though they have VERY different styles. We love those acts because they're good.
And even though Posford is my favorite musician (side by side with Aphex Twin and Ozric Tentacles), it's just wrong to say that no one else can do it.
And there's nothing wrong with an "I Love Simon" thread every now and then :) |

Shpongle is no trance ! no way ! how can you define 'Dorest Perception' (e.g) as Trance ?! It is some sort of ambient , but I'd say Simon & Raja make miscellaneous/diverse music . Even if they make Salsa they'll add psy sounds in it . I personally Don't think that u should define the genres like that . If someone likes minimilastic trance maybe he likes x-dream too and not just Son Kite for example . I like it all , and IMHO it's all good in it's own way . and in other words I second Assaf on this . Cheers. |

The main amazing thing about Simon is that the man is first of all A MUSICIAN! What means that his music as Shpongole can turn on my father.
About Simon as Hallucinogen.. Well it's very hard to enjoy that music since it's very very complicated and that's why you have to be in full concentration. You can't chill with this music and you absolutely can't do something else beside listening to it. Moreover, there is no monotonic thing in that music beside the kick and that might be the reason of the complication in his tracks.
** Any of the things above says that there is no other man who is able to do such things as Simon. |

this is a good point .. though obviously a bit biased in favor of simon posford ..
I personally belong the psy-school, and I do not know how other ppl are, but I do not usually deviate from that .. I for example, cannot even listen to Goa without aching to change the track. Minimal I tend to like.
About Posford though, yes, he probably is the only person I`d give a listen to that comes close to Goa ... and I quite like him, no doubt abt it, the man is a genius if inspite of my musical preferences, I still like him.
As for acts like AP, i personally think theyre crap, I dont like them, never have, and find them boring |

AP and those other stereotypes of goa are a bad example.
There are many good goa oldies which people don't remember because they aren't made by Astral Projection or California Sunshine.
Koxbox - Fuel On, Hallucinogen - Angelic Particles, Green Nuns - Conflict, Doof - Double Dragon (just from the top of my head) and many others are so much more interesting and powerful than anything ever done by astral (IMO), and are made in the classic goa trance style.
The problem with goa is not the music, it's the production, and the fact that most of the people that have been into trance music for over 3 years know basically ALL of the classics by heart, so people are looking for something different. But then again, musically, it's just genius at times.
And that little psychotic melody that comes in for 4 seconds and never reappears in the track is something that I really love :) |

Some of you seem to have mis-understood me, in no way this is another "i like simon thread", but i try to present an opinion, and AP are just an EXAMPLE, although for me they are on the top, there are many many other like them, and this thread has nothing to do with them, and as far as artists like "kox box" etc... - great respect. This thread also brings minimal just as an example. My main point is that simon posford, as hallucinogen, NOT as Shpongle, can take three styles of the music, and put them all into one piece, The complexivity of psychedelic trance, the power and emotion of Goa trance, and the bits of minimal trance, - All into one piece of music.

SimonŽnŽRaja r 2 genious... simon with the technique, raja with his mind, both together, as shpongle, is for sure a nice expression of the psychedelia, on an ancient way, like old tribes, legends, not that spacey psychedelia... it also kicks ass... I heard from some friends that Simon played live @ VooV Experience and it was amazing... new versions for classics and some new stuff... heŽll be probably releasing an album soon on Twisted... probably a KILLER one... |
