Its a city for Psy Ants - Mr. Posford is feeding them...

actually its a rather large (multimillion pound) probably pointless mixing desk.

The colours of the knobs and the caps on the group and master faders says it's a Soundcraft; couldn't tell you the exact model though.

It's not actually pointless though... having played with Simon when he's done a live set I can assure you he does need all those channels... in his Hallucinogen sets he works with multi-tracked audio from hard-disk (24 tracks, I think) plus a laptop, synths and FX.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Why do you want to buy it before you know what it is and what it is used for?

That is a very fine piece of equipment. The price is accordingly fine.

Forgive my lack of knowledge... sorry!

still, wow, its always impressive to find out about true live performing electronic artists...
The people who first come to my mind are legends like AFX - who i remember sandpapered LP's, played them with all the stratches and crackles that were made and mixed that into a whole new track live .
Or Orbital, with their glasses with lights!

I'm shure thats not Simon Posford's own mixer. He uses a Mackie 32*8 desk in his studio. This Soundcraft is pointless to have in a small studio and I bet its not even a very good mixer all in all.

I think there is a difference in saying "playing live" and "mixing live".A big one.
having a mixing console for live session is more like what was dub at its own origing rather then playing "live" (nothing bad about it,thats what i do most part of time with my electro-dub act).

just my 2 cents.

Peace

It's still a performance though, and as such you can think of it as 'playing' with the audio.

As for the mixer in the photo, it's rather bigger than any of the Spirit models I've ever seen. I'd say it's not a Spirit but one of their old-style medium-format front-of-house desks; I doubt it's in production any more.

I've never been a fan of the Spirit desks either...           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Whats wrong with Soundcraft Spirit????

Not that I'm very keen on analogue consoles anymore but I used to prefer them over mackies for sure.

Not a big difference in working with them, but the soundcraft have a warmer and fatter sound.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

While it has better quality then mackie, I always heard ppl saying that it's not warm enough. Another issue was the maintainance, we had to call the maintainance guy every month, cause the faders use to get dirty and krechetz the sound.           "a new art came into my mind which only you can create, the Art of Noises, the logical consequence of your marvelous innovations." I used a couple of spirits, and I would agree that build quality might be better on the mackies.
Both desks I used had a few bad pot's, wich I never came across on a mackie.

But really, who ever said that the spirit does not sound warm??
That was always the argument I heard anyway from people getting soundcraft desks.
At least compared to a mackie wich almost sound digital.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
