well, posfort is for sure one of the best artists ever (but don't forget there are other soundwizards, not only him!). the hallucinogen in dub album is my favourite chill-out album ever and i don't even like this style too much normally. and also twisted is one of the best albums ever. i just hope he can keep the quality of his productions. but with younger brother stuff he is on a good way i think...

I think that simon is one of the best artists ever ,and there's a lot of them...
But actually its a metter of taste as said before, IMO - his style is a standard in the psytrance world...and he sure inspired a lot of artists.
but my taste sides with the fact that this style is too common in our scene.
i would prefer some new sounds, fresh sounds , in spite of his many originality...

No doubt about it. He explored so many places in the sound world that others can't even imagine how to get to. One of the rare musicians who is an artist not only in music but in sound as well.

He definitely has my vote for best artist. His ability to express the inexpressable makes him a wizard, and the way he takes us to other worlds with sound makes him a shaman. |

I think simon is a great producer, his talent lays in using (alot of predone) loops and samples and putting them together to form sumthing beautiful. That's what producers mostly do. They use other artists loops, melodies, voices etc. together with their own 'spice' and make them work together to form a track.
He is like the sonic chef. He can take two sounds - ex. from different samplecds - that are very different and make them work together to create a whole new soundscape that still sound pretty down to earth.
Now sure, this is what most producers do in the music scene, but what makes simon different/special?
His soundscapes are more like obscure psychedelic realities. They always seem to have the base from a 'real world' perspective. Just like when he said that he wanted his music to express the psychedelic experiences - like tripping without drugs - they always have a base in the 'earthly' stimulus with the subjective perception modulation that goes wacko when on psychedelic substances...
And this is from my own analyzing where his 'sound' is defined. One of simons biggest talents are in 'soundmangling' - to create the obcureness by using all kinds of sonic warping means.
Simons music is really an own genre really because of it's special definition imo.
But two artists never sound the same and good, bad, like, dislike is only to subjective experience, external influence & most probably connected to mood and timing. |
