When I first listened to this I thought it was good but not great.
Having listened a few more times and thought about the fact that it's being played live on stage by a 'proper band' I'm really liking it.
Have to agree that it's a bit short, about 52 minutes, compared to most CDs these days. |

Got my CD from twisted today !
This album is fantastic !
energetic,Uplifting, psychedelic heavy Grooves, cruising through PsyDub,AmbiDub and some Space Rock flavours, these guys exploded on stage shooting intense psychedelic and emotional beauty.
the new arrangements are excellent and well performed !
and the new tracks are Great as well and also well executed !
it’s impossible not to Groove along when listening to these fat delightful bass lines which Youth plays beautifully, together with David Nock’s very energetic and dynamic drumming ( an excellent performance by this drummer ! electricity is one way to describe his performance,Nock and Youth are a strong and solid rhythm section )
and these warm sticky, fat and liquid synth textures and lead sounds which are manipulated in a masterful way by Posford and Ott alongside with the other electronic wonders by them as well, and the glorious guitar work by Jackson and Posford that fits together with everything, in that twisted swirly way.
the production is top quality as always from twisted, excellent mixing and mastering.
it’s always a pleasure to hear a well performed and produced Live album.
i don’t know how this performance really sounded to the people who were actually there but the album sounds Great !
10/10
cheers !

"Hallucinogen In Rock" might have been a better title.
I say that mainly because of the drum and bass playing on the album. The drummer, don't get me wrong, is very, very skilled, but he's obviously a rock drummer with either little experience or little interest in playing reggae. And, seeing as how it's supposed to be a dub act, I was hoping for more of a reggae groove. He pretty much plays a standard rock drum kit, though, and wails on it like a rock drummer would. I wish they'd have cut out some of the recorded drum fills from the album and let him do his own. Or, better yet, I wish they'd give him a timbale. Other dub percussion would have been nice, too.
The bass was a little disappointing. I'm a little shocked to be saying that about Youth, but it's true. I mainly say that because the bass on the original HiD album was so gorgeous and rich. Since there were new basslines for almost all, if not all, of the tracks on the live album, I felt that most of these suffered in comparison with the original. Some of them sounded, dare I say it, lazy compared with Chris Barker's basslines from the originals. For example, look at the bass throughout most of the first track. Once again, a lot of these sounded more like rock 'n' roll basslines to me than reggae basslines.
To give credit where credit is due, the new guitar parts are really beautiful, especially on "Angelic Particles" and the new "HiD" track.
I also really dug some of the new things on "Spiritual Antiseptic," and while I can't swear to it, I think that might be some live melodica in there.
I was really not crazy about "Cicada," which sounded to me like some fairly standard modern rock music with a little bit of synth squidginess added. I did not enjoy the big crunching geetars. I had similar feelings on "Rent Boy."
I should note that this is largely due to personal preference -- I don't really like rock 'n' roll very much, and really gravitated towards the first HiD album because of its fusion of classic trance sounds with rootsy dub reggae. On the other hand, someone who's got more of a rock background might find this album to be just their cup of tea.
I would also like to note that it's impressive when any artist manages to do electronic music in a "live" format that goes beyond twisting knobs and pretending to play pre-recorded music, and HiD has certainly succeeded here.
I certainly think this album is a big accomplishment for Ott, Simon, &etc., but aside from a few tracks I probably won't be playing this a whole lot. |

I thought I wouldn't be interested in new versions of the same old Posford tracks. Yet I was literally frozen with energy rushing over when listening to LSD, starting with the wild crowd cheering.
Incredible accomplishment.

Thought it was a DVD. Now I'm excited and disappointed at the same time.

I agree with your comments about the drums herbivore, they have made the tracks sounds a little too rock orientated and I'm not too taken with the new tracks. Spiritual Antiseptic and LSD are great though, still send shivers down my spine everytime I listen to them. I reckon Twisted have done a pretty decent job here, they have given the fans what they want and despite a couple duff tracks and the shortness of the album I'm pretty happy with it. |
