Hey Thanks guys! you guys have been of grest help.

@FluoSamsara (Oxygen)- Thanks for replying! I will look into the Toshiba as well.

Now, from the replies, it seems like having a really fast configuration also can be harmful. Thats seems strange to me.

OK, one final question and then thats it i won't bother anyone else!

According to you guys what do you think will be an ideal laptop to buy? in terms of efficiency.
the thing is when i saw the HP laptop, i hoguht it was an awesome machine but i didn't think about things like overheating, HDD speed, noise etc etc, all i was looking for was how powerful it was which is obviously the wrong way to choose.
So, In terms of efficiency(for music production) can anyone suggest some configurations, Please?!

Thanks Again!

Well, I just said I´m a toshiba guy not that I say Toshiba is THA WAY TO GO... it will depend from ppl to ppl...If you find someone that had a problematic toshiba he will say Toshiba sucks, so as I said its personal...But the truth is they sell more laptops than any other brand (at least until recently) , so they must have some experience...

My advices when choosing a laptop:

- Go for Centrino - Altough the clock speed is way lower than doesn´t mean much, I would say a 1.7 centrino would be about the same as a 3Ghz P4 (there are no math formulas though)

Centrino will make your battery last longer, and your machine will be much quieter than a P4 (and you wont have overheating problems)

- RAM - As much as you can afford...

- Graphics card - Make sure to get one with a independent memory, don´t buy graphics card with shared memory. (that means it will take its memory out of the RAM!)

These are the main things to have in mind when buying a laptop imo...

I wouldn´t be too worried with the HD, you can get external ones very cheap these days, I just bought a 250Gb external for 150 Euros...

Also if you can get Firewire 2 connections thats quite a plus also (800 Mb/s, double the speed of USB2 and Firewire 1). This will be handy to connect your external HD also, although I work with USB2 and haven´t had problems.

Hope I was of help.

Good luck

I just got an Aurora notebook with AMD 64 3800+, (socket 939), 1GB Dual Channel, Dual Drives RAID setup, it should be quite fast and it is for the most part.

But I noticed the system is spec'd at 1000 MHz clock speed. That doesn't seem right to me. Did Alienware underclock me to keep the system from heating up?

I read all the horror stories about these guys and was nervous about purchasing with them. But I wanted to use an EMU 1616M (so I had to have a machine with a type 2 cardbus slot) and I have AMD 64 with socket 939 and EMU 1820 on my desktop system. So it seems that I could have the same DSP sound and performance I am used to on my notebook.

So far I have had no problems. Yes expensive as hell, heavy machine, etc. I knew all that going in. But there are some advantages and for me it was worth the stretch. Now I have to rely on the system to remain solid. But it's somewhat of a crapshoot with any hardware device anyway.           ELECTRON EYES / MARK-EVAN (NOR. CAL)
