More than half a million die per day!
Just in Africa you have regions, totally ignored by UN etc, where mostly Children die from Hunger and various diseases in the number of 100.000's per week per region.
Then take the huge dead toll's per day from Aids (Yes still a huge killer in Africa), Malaria, Other diseases, Famine, War etc. And all of this only in Africa. And then add the rest of the World such as Asia and even Europe. And in USA you have high dead toll's too caused by poverty and no health care - soon to be changed though.
When you add these numbers I can assure you more than half a million die every single day from diseases, war, hunger, poverty etc. All causes that could be changed IF especially the Governments in the West would do something But we won't from the simple reason. We do not want to see this countries prosper. We wan't to be the leading economic powers getting more and more fat while they die.
It is good to see the number of people who donate to Haiti. But the bitching and ego fights, causing major delays in help getting out, between nations makes me wanna p**e.

Over 25,000 children die every day around the world.
That is equivalent to:
1 child dying every 3.5 seconds
17-18 children dying every minute
A 2004 Asian Tsunami occurring almost every 1.5 weeks
An Iraq-scale death toll every 16–38 days
Over 9 million children dying every year
Some 70 million children dying between 2000 and 2007
The silent killers are poverty, hunger, easily preventable diseases and illnesses, and other related causes. In spite of the scale of this daily/ongoing catastrophe, it rarely manages to achieve, much less sustain, prime-time, headline coverage.
This doesnt mean that we have to do nothing for Haiti, this NAtion was already one of the poorest in the world.... the earthquake has destroied 80-90% of their homes and buildings in the main city and in the circumstant city around the quake center....
Xolvexs what you say can be correct, but is really bad taste, bad said and doesn't help a person....

and since we are only supposed to be talking about relief i will just say, please do find out who ever has made contributions that > "if" the fund is being channelized the way you thought it 'should' be.
Contributing and sitting with "Job Done" Attitude doesnt help the cause. Egoistically it might but not beyond the little corner of our existence.

Sitting down donating money is the ONLY way to help at the moment (Unless you are a Doctor/Nurse).
No ordinary people will be able to go to Haiti and help as volunteers at the moment (Source: Red Cross) as they have all the trained and skilled people in place they need.
So yes sitting down and donating money does help and speaking about it also help as it makes people aware of the disaster.

in an emergency situation all kind of help is good, including donations.
but also, its important to think in a long way.
the trance scene for example.
another day, before the disaster, i was thinking myself on how this region is neglected by the scene. just think. how many artists from Haiti did you see beeing released on the last months and years? and Jamaica, Cuba, and others? How many djs beeing booked? how many producers and labels interested in that region?
not only central america, but also many places in south america are neglected. it pisses me off to see many labels that i love, and trough the years they never cared to release one single artist from the whole latin america. just think in the labels you love, than ask yourself how many south americans, asians, africans they showed interest in release?
would be so hard to have just 1 track on a cd with 10 tracks?
i heard great things about the costa rica scene. do any label show interest?
ok, i know people from these regions still are not so good like europeans and north americans, but then you can help in many ways to put the music on road.
helping is good, but would be good to see all this interest in that region in a daily basis.

I don't follow the media really for years..I hardly watch anythin in tv.No time for that somehow.
I would be interesting to see the earth moving,is there a video somewhere in the net? Does such recorded visual material exist or why it is not everywhere to be seeen (like other disasters) ? ...that is strange somehow.
Feel free to misunderstand it but it is really only interest for mother nature.

those are some very bleak world views. anyway, to add to that, the American Airlines offer turned out to be a hoax.
Anyway, xovlexs' schpeel got some wheels turning and we're also focusing on things closer to home given the unnaturally cold winter we've had this year. Still moving forward with our bit for Haiti but also looking to do something within the psytrance community as mentioned in earlier posts... haven't had any luck on this forum though. maybe once the CD is ready?

its numbers...and numbers never lie, they maybe incorrect but when u see a number your jaw drops and you go "oh my god" and god says "oh its just another drop of water in the ocean of life" but no we human like to think of ourselves as more important than that.
