When i was learning guitar, i simply got tablature. Google "Nirvana Tabs", find some good resource.
You will see txt files of tabs,
------------
------------
------------
------------
------------
------------
At these tabs you will find now guitar tuned by looking for note at begging of string (----), you will find time signature or timing at begging. You will find different techniques to press/touch strings like hammer, pull.... Then google "guitar hammering" and learn the technique.
Unfortunately my tries to find good online teaching tutorial had no result, since most of tutorials which came freely were to newbie, so just try to do as i did. After all of it i can play come songs i like, of course harder than Nirvana's simple chords. |

"lesson on picking techniques , solo lead playing , different keys and scales and chord / rythm guitar playing ....."
alot depends on what type of music you want to play. If you want to just learn songs then tab is the way to go. If you really want to learn guitar i would highly suggest getting a couple of the hundreds of guitar teaching videos that are out there by major players.
John Petrucci and Paul Gilberts videos are both incredibly good.
here is a link to Petrucci

They have great tips as well as being very inspiring to get you to practice. A great book to go along with that if you really want to learn to play is Mick Goodrick's The Advancing Guitarist.
Dont waste your time and money with a teacher though, guitar is used in so many different types of music that unless you get someone who is into the same stuff that you want to do you wont learn what you want. |

For me the best guitar knowledge tool is the CAGED system. Essentially its purpose is to get you playing all over the neck.
I'll just describe it briefly
First of all you need to know open chords
C , A , G , E & D
0 0 3 0 2
1 2 0 0 3
0 2 0 1 2
2 2 0 2 0
3 0 2 2 x
x x 3 0 x
so learn these if you don't know them.
For the purpose of this exercise it is a good idea to learn them without using your 1st finger.
Now if you play a C as shown above, then play a shape like:
3
5 using you 1st finger to cover
5 all the strings behind your 2nd
5 3rd and 4th fingers on the 3rd
3 fret...
x
That's also a C, but in a different voicing (using the A shape).
Then if you use your 1st finger to cover the B,G and D string at the 5th fret then play the G shape with fingers 2,3 and 4... that's also a C.
You can do this all the way up the neck til you get back to C again. I found it very useful because not only did it get me playing odd chords which are tricky at first but with practice you get used to them, but it's given me a greater understanding of the fret board which helps sooo much with songwriting AND improvisation.
If you found that helpful (or not quite helpful enough) and want to know more, I'm more than happy to help with guitar problems.
Good luck.

Hey Man.
The best way to learn to play IMO, is go from the basics of learning the chords, you can find tons of chord charts on the net, and at the same time learn start learning scales, starting with the basic major scales, and moving on to different variations... a good progrem i know is Absolute Fretboard Trainer, which will teach you some basic music theory skills and the notes on the guitar. Learning songs is good to help train your ear to the chords and how well the fit togather. but the most importent thing you have to do is PRACTICE and lots of it. have fun
