I have the opposite problem you have. All of my music is its own style almost even my psy. However, when I try to make a cookie cutter psy track it doesnt work and i wonder off somewhere and end up at 86 bpm messin with dirty bass LFO. Its probably because i got into electronic music through IDM only later did i try to emulate things like euro trance, psy, breaks, dnb etc.

Hmm, creating a new style would be really hard now these days with so many existing genres form before, most probably you will end up with the subgenre of a subgenre's subgenre.
Create a unique flavour for it which is gonna be the touch of the style will kinda be the trick.. i have NO clue where to start though?
gotta imagine i where to create a new style.
New bass sound, or one thats really funky but havent been used a lot and bring out all the goodies in it.
now for pattern, a specific midipattern in it might work
synths, maybe some dry sounding synths, ethnic instruments, complex/simple rythms? dark of bright?
could easily turn into electronic ethno.. lord

convert elvis tunes into 8 bit and put a few farm animal sounds in over a pop beat.
That's actually the one main guideline. The rest is just your own creativity. But it must be done this way or it will not be a new style. |

what i think is... to creat a new style, is something kind out of our control, because we have experimental music, what is experimental music? its music that ppl cant tag. so, if u can make something untaggable, with lucky, u creat a new style, if the songs u create (with only one song u cant create a style) have particularities, so i think u made it, if dont, u make experimental music. xD

Jumpstyle kicks with DnB drums + a little acid 303 and some Fullon melodies and some african djembe rhythms..
But really what is a new style these days? Merging things into a new fusion is one thing but creating a new style.... like Oni Katsu say it will probably be a sub-genre...
tell me what a new style is? Why not just do what you like most? Focus on good sound design and great mixing.....
why not try a 4 chord track?

set your instruments up so you can improvise
chain effects together in new ways
take a bunch of acid and spend a whole day jamming on your synths until you find weird sounds that you've never heard before. |
