I don't see it as anything related to being a "hippie" to want to communicate with people on the dance-floor when you play. On the contrary it got all to do with doing a great job giving people a good value for the money they paid to hear you play. This won't happen if you are hidden away from the dance-floor or stand on some pedestal on a huge stage with your hands in the air being worshiped. Unless they actually are OK with paying hard earned money to worship some Joe/Jodette on stage who would probably never would have made it in another scene.

Speaking of stages, what do you guys think of the Shpongletron Experience that's touring the states this summer (may have been elsewhere as a well).
Simon is like fifty thousand feet up on a stage. so frickin ridiculous, even if the visual and lighting thing is cool. And he's only DJing anyway what the hell. He may as well be one of the go go dancers.

Haha, I saw Simon play a Shpongle DJ set here in Portland a couple months ago.
Super elevated stage. Super drunk crowd. Such a mainstream American Rock performance...tons of people stretching out their hands and then he'd dutifully go out and touch everyone then go back to looking bored and half-dancing behind the decks a thousand feet away from everyone while playing the most popular Shpongle tracks with very, very little alteration besides a few shitty stuttering effects. A million miles away from the times I've seen him play an intimate psytrance event where he actually seems to care. Can't blame him, really. Can any of you say that you would do it differently if you were being offered like 5 grand for each show??
The Shpongletron lightshow may be amazing but I probably won't go to it as I can't stand to see the music that got me into electronica butchered and abused in such a way again.
