What do people think about this?
I think although it may be disappointing to some, if the act doesn't require two people to perform then it makes sense as an economic measure, especially if the artist is coming from far away.

Well it's o.k when a member actually shows up.
I've been to many parties when promoter put some big international name on the flayer but there was some dude whom had no affiliation with said group what so ever plaing their music.
Now thats plain throwing shit in the eyes of people wich attended the party.

I've seen parties where one of the international headliners couldn't make it due to visa/flight issues, so the promoter had them send over unreleased tracks and had someone else DJ them. That's acceptable to me in such circumstances.
Which brings up the question, though: unless it's a TRULY live act, why does the artist even need to be there in person? They could just cook up an hour of music and send it to you over the wire to play.

If the artist is not doing the stuff right there is not TRULY LIVE!
I hope that answers your question.

Not to mention the artist!
I've seen plenty of parties and festivals over the years headlining names who were never booked (I've had the questionable pleasure of finding my own name on events I never heard of).

thats off topic but a REAL LIVE is when the artist construct or plays around with the original composition RIGHT THERE LIVE!
So if the artist is not even present at the time how can it be a TRUE LIVE!

who fucking care really? 99% of live acts only hit play. Its not like its going to make any difference at all.

Economically it makes sense. Especially if there isn't enough room or gear space available for both people...depends on the party, and the situation...but as always it would be nice to have the whole act present for energy!

it's funny that everyone complains about djs/acts doing nothing but 'pressing play and dancing'

Yeah, no dancing necessary if you're playing live (for real). Bobbing of head is all, only but if you feel it. I don't come to the party to watch nerdy English men trying to dance
