so i want to filter like 30 seconds of a song so i put a filter as an effect on the master and automated it to go on and off...is it better just to group filter ....which i dont understand the term fully.....is that what i did or is there another way to do this?           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

which daw are you using? it is better to use a group track for this job.
make a group track and insert a filter. send it to the master out, then send all the channels that you want through the filter to this group channel and leave the rest channels to the master out.
use this if you don't want the whole track to be filtered. if you want the whole track through the filter its fine to use the master channel.

Master chan is like the group of everything, so unless you want to filter everything, you would use specific group channels.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I've found the best way to do it, for me personally, is to use Fruity Send as last effect on the channel and send it to one of the Send channels.           Triplag Music

or bouncing what you need, and just filter this audiotrack. note that you cant go back with this method if you once bombined your certain tracks.

I send the kick/bass and put a LP filter on it. You can use the same technique to group anything you want to effect at teh same time.           .
