hey all,

whats everyones thoughts on group compression for percussion? (considering i was compressing similar dynamics e.g. OHH and CHH)

I also wanted to know whether or not you can send group channels via a channels sends instead of output or a group into another group?

thanks a bunch

ahhh i figured my last question. you can only send a group to another group that has beeen made after the first group so i dont need to worry about send fx

but yeah thoughts on group compression on percussion would be nice???

yes, i do group compress the rhythm/drum/percussion section. i do this to tighten up their dynamic range a little bit. sometimes, if a few events occur at the same time, spikes can build up which can be flattened this way. i also do this for real drums (recorded acoustic drums) on band recordings, i think it's an established approach.

about the sending to group channels: you got it right, you can only send to "newer" group channels. this restriction was made to prevent feedback loops. but it's ridiculous... steinberg finally needs to make it possible to route anywhere you want _as long as_ no feedback loops occur.

cheers

try going with a warming saturator (antares tube, saturator in blockfish, vintage warmer, etc).

They really gel it all together and give a much more pro sheen if you are mixing in the box imo.           .
