I have an mc505 which i bought when i had some money but no sense.... it sits in my attic. Last time I used the mc505 was when my pal's 3 year old son came round to visit and I let him play with it

Use Fruity Loops! The master power hyper prog!!!
It is good for everything, espacially drum loops.
I use it for about 2 years and it became my absolutly favourite prog. |

Well.. The groovebox may be replaced by software .. I admit to that.. there are TONS of groovebox/drum machine vsts out there..
However, the Groovebox (MC-909) is ideal for live performances (U can have up to 256mb of sample memory - no computer ....)
In addition to it's great sampling features, it also has it's own synthysis section, two assignable d-beam controlers (which are cool for some stuff..)
Two built-in MFX, Onboard compressor + Onboard Mastering ,Onboard Reverb, Turntable Emulation... and more..
I use it in conjunction with my G4 Laptop. Connection via M-Audio Firewire 410.
Works perfect with Cubase SX 2.0 Under OSX 10.3.2
Note :
I believe the groovebox is a very usefull tool for beginners aswell as professional artists..
You can look into it's full feature list at http://www.mc-909.com.
Peace,
BooM!

Agree with on the synths .. But, the mc909 is optimized for a live performance .. and yes after enough practice - when you can manhandle the piece you can play live with ease and it's actually fun too!
About playing in a show... and what's present at the show - no doubt a "global" setup is prefered.. I totally agree with you on that...
And NO -I do see why bring your own gear to a show if you actually use it.. but it's always better to come when all you need is a cd case or a laptop(multiout) ...

lol, i have one too! i used to make all kinds of beats on that thing. and yeah, i haven't so much as powered it on in ages. its a fun lil box, but all those grooveboxes (with exception to the tb-303) are complete crap
anyone with a tb-303 that would like to sell? lol, i would soon be king of the trance kingdom! that lil box has the nicest bass ever
