I dont think you can have a very good result , but i think maybe can be lowered on a multiband eq , or some other kind of machine making it possible to change freq's in one end without affecting the other .,            3ó BooOoM ShanKaRA 3ó

what about mixing other kick down on a low volume? maybe that sounds stupid but youshould try to experiment. multiband eq's results depend on the material and overall bass freqs in track.

hello, you could try to adjust it for example in firium, but i don`t think it will sound good after all, because you will cut freqs from other instruments too (bass). but it`s a precise tool maybe your bass freq does not interfere with the peak of the kick. as makus said try to experiment, it depends on overall bass in the track. i have done this once but all other instruments in the track were cut below 150 - 200 hz, so i made a new bassline, cut the original below 200 hz and put the new bl with proper volume. but this was the bassline problem. the kick is usually much more wide in freq range

It all depends on "how loud is too loud", but a (multiband) compressor/limiter should push the peaking kick down when it goes over the threshold. Just set a threshold that affects the rest of the mix as little as possible and only compresses the kick. The higher the ratio, the more you will compress the kick, so have a good listen/play. You are going to change the sound of it though. Dunno whether you're going to like the final result or not.

Could you find the BPM and put another kick drum over and use sidechaining. Or is that ridiculous?
