I'll repeat my answer in Mike's thread: Reaktor. Closest thing to hardware.

try the Muon Electron, the Mysterion, Halion works great as a sampler. tau pro and the ppd tritium are Excellent for basslines and whopping, searing melodies. also try getting the a1, a steinderg-cubase VSTi, very usefull. waldorf waves is a very nice synth. NI's FM7 is great for padwork, but not much more than that, unless you know how to operate on wavetable synths. the triangle II is great if you know what your doing, and the same goes for his big brother, the pentagon I.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are.
