NYE 2000/ Exscape to Trance Mountain in N. California. The big computer mess was coming and we were ready to be abducted by aliens. It was the first time I hooked up with Dr.Spook to throw a dance gathering. Carl and KT brought up the infamous Cerwin Vega Soundsystem that became the Phoenix Family's main sound. Random and I played a tag team set at Midnight on NYE, it was such a great thing. The scene was hungry for some new vibes in S.F., and they got what they wanted. The weather was cold and the ground was frozen. The cars glittered in the lights at night like they were ice crystals. This party changed the life of trance gatherings in N. California. |

For me, I would have to say my favorite party experience was Goa Gil @ San Carlos, Mexico Halloween 2005. This party had so much crazy energy in the crowd and was pretty much complete anarchy. Looking back on it, I think it redefined what kind of crowd I want to see at a party. Every crowd I've seen since has been very timid and subdued... I've been pretty much bored with every party since. |

both of the Mindfull parties in the Mojave where Gregh on Earth played. The first one was the party that got me into dark trance, the second one was one of the most intense meltdowns I've ever had.
Goa Gil Memorial Day Meltdown 2006- with the encouragement of a certain Evil Mistress, i found myself at Angel's Camp around 5 30 in the morning for my first Gil party. This was one of the most surreal experiences I think I have ever had. the vibes were so intense I could feel them before even talking to any one- as soon as I parked I just felt an incredible unified energy. The Magical Chest next to Gil was too much for words. watching people drop like flies then get back up again like nothing happened was pretty cool too. oh, and the music 
other parties were amazing for certain acts, like seeing Grapes of Wrath at Naga Helix and Derango at Soulsync. Burning Man trance parties have been awesome too, but that has a lot to do with the build up of energies over a week of desert insanity. but the Burn Night party w/ Organic Mechanix, Parus, Bodhi, Penta, Dylan, and Anachronid was pretty friggin awesome... especially since it was the first time i exposed my cousin to a dark trance party. |

I'd say my most memorable trance experience happened not even at the party-- I got stranded at a party in the mountains near Nagoya and hiked 10k (going off the directions I wasn't sure I had translated correctly from a 70 year old farmer haha) through the mountains of Bumblefuck, Japan to find a bus stop-- During that hike I looked out across a bridge, and for the first time in like 7 months I couldn't see anything man-made. Surreal.
Seeing my wide-eyed little brother get his brain fried at World Bridge was pretty funny too...
Gaian Mind 06-- going nuts to SOT in the pouring rain, and then the last set rcoked my world (I think it was Psymmetrix) This party was a very different experience for me because I went up there without anyone else from the Atlanta crew and actually had to make a point of meeting new people--

gaian mind 2005- deviant species and shapestatic stole it!
Gaian mind 2003/4? - whichever one had hux-flux! and the other one that had scorb!
neptunalia 2004 - our first big one! here we gooooo!
portal @ round mountain NC - i dare to mention.
rajaram, hallucinogen, dimitri TIP @synthetic sadhus - amazura ballroom... we were all breathing blacklight!
puddles of sound 2004 - not getting electrocuted was nice! djing in the same puddle as the ampstack! brilliant!
same goes for our stage at Transformus 2006. my set with medisin -- playing in a complete downpour...
and croatan 2006 - lightning striking around our tent... its a miracle we are all still alive.
the early samadhi/UTTA chaos days make me who i am today...

SoulSync at the Ranch-Alien Mental, Polyphonia, Horror Place, Derango, and Fractal Cowboys..... Still remains the best party Ive ever been to...
Symbiosis 06-Protoculture, Hallucinogen, OTT, Shpongle, Random, SuN Control Species, Krumelur, Pixel, Chromatone, Sentient, Psylab, Aes Dana, Bluetech, Waterjuice.... Such an amazing festival, it was like being home...
Goa Gil's Birthday 06-in teh Santa Cruz mountains, redwoods all over, meeting some wonderful people, hearing Ariane's Nimba set and Gil's amazing ~10pm to 8pm set.... Inspiring to me as a dj...
Mirnaya Festival-WONDERFUL location perched atop a mountain ridge, held during a big meteor shower! Parus, Audiopathik, all the djs... Such a wonderful party, so laid back... So fun!
All the parties I went to this year were amazing, sometimes an adventure but why else would we do it? I look back, and each experience is like a gem glowing in my heart... This year should be even better!

I forget to mention all the How Weird Street Faire and Love Parade dancing in the streets madness
and also the monthly Thump Radio party, without which i wouldn't be so hooked on psytrance...
and i guess my very first party ever, an Astral Phoenix party at Tyssen Street Studios in London, 2001. Fuck, that party changed the direction of my life..

Symbiosis 2006, my first festival resulted in nearly cutting off my thumb, followed by the greatest party of my life.
At the Ranch:
-Halloween 2005 with Hujaboy, Rinkadink, Atomic Pulse.
-Xerox 2006. (eccept for the trash)
-Soulsync: Derango, Fractal Cowboys.

All of the nights back in the days when Brain Lizoa Devotee took over the DJ booth and the dancefloor with all of the unsuspecting sirkus folk basking in thier first taste of trance!

I remember watching Ubar Tumar live outdoor in 2000 in Japan.. (Before darkpsy they used to play this chaotic, tripped-out kind of night psy) and i felt like the stage was a nuclear reactor, and he was pushing buttoms that were going to cause a core meltdown. Japanese freaks were howling like animals and wild Indians and lighting off roman candles and sparklers rather excitably. I kept thinking my clothes were going to get holes burned in them: I was going to catch on fire. It was all just too way much to handle (in a good way).
I also remember my first party in Portland, Oregon... Feb '04...by Apollo's Lute with Proteus and Ghreg on Earth... and this wacked out experimental space band called the Dendrites in the side room. I met the craziest cats from Eugene and a FAR OUT hippie sister who brought a psychedelic forest of pine cones and tree limbs in a suitcase - and claimed she lived in the trees. It was totally fun to hear about her about imaginary world... IT was cooler than my imaginary world. |
