Good software soft-knee compressor?

Anyone know of a good software soft-knee compressor? The waves Rcomp claims to toggle between a hard and soft knee, but in the manual it claims the soft-knee setting simply engages the compressor 3dB below the threshold (a switch that drops the threshold 3db, gee, how useful).

I'm looking for a software soft-knee compressor similar to a Drawmer LX-20 (http://www.drawmer.com/archive.html#lx20). There's no threshold on the Drawmer as a true soft-knee compressor ought to start compressing immediately (I think).

Maybe all I need to do is set my threshold to the minimum on the Rcomp? Somehow this doesn't feel right...

Thanks, and peace!

C4 ?
varies from soft knee to 50 = hard knee (i think)
plus its multiband so gives you more control over how each part of the sound is compressed.

The Sonitus:FX compressor has a variable soft-knee setting. You can set it anywhere between 0 dB (hard) and 30 dB (soft).

Youve misunderstood. Waves Rennaisance Comp IS a real soft-knee compressor. It is correct that the compression engages 3db below the threshold, but NOT at the ratio youve set. The ratio starts to rise -3db below the threshold but only when the input hits the threshold the signal will be compressed at the ratio youve set.

So when it's set to 'soft-knee' the compressor ramps up to the specified ratio from -3db up to the threshold?

That is how it works in general, yes. I'm assuming the Waves compressor works the same way.
