Yes, and the funny part is, these 9 guys kinda have a point.

But life moves on... and we adapt, we survive.

Nice videos.

you don't adapt if you keep complaining. complainers suck and they don't enjoy life so much.

Now I am not specifically addressing this to you....

BUT

*rant mode on*

I am really fucking sick of people, who put other people down who aren't fucking clap happy about everything.

I really fucking enjoy my life, regardless of whether I complain, don't think certain aspects are as good as it used to be, etc. It doesn't mean the rest of my life sucks, it just means that sombunal people can't handle any fucking "negativity", and think that certain things shouldn't be talked about or discussed......

Fucking rotten to the core.

but i hear you loud n clear (hehe, see the connection to another topic?) the eye-q vol.2 comp is imo one of the best edm comps ever.
yes, the music was fresher and the grass was greener... an dthat reminds of:

"High Hopes"

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun

Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide

At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever

IMO it's one thing not being happy about something, but it's another thing fixating on that in one's conversations and giving the impression that your dissatisfaction is the only thing you want to talk about, which is what I think Bom*shankar meant by his post.

i am quite sure that throughout evolution the monkey complained a lot about its four feett position before it became a human. those who were perfectly okey with being a monkey, did not turn to a human.

about negativity - you will always see exactly as much negativity in a person , as you are able to resonate with. if your heart is negative, you will see negativity even in the sentence the sun is shining, because it will remind you on deadly heat and not on the sun:).

about the good old times - well they ARE the good old times. it takes ~infinite isratrancers to change the bulb. you cannot. old trance is immortal.

There has to be a balance. Too much negativism is annoying and can kill any debate and so is too much Dandy Happy "We are not allowed to be negative" people which I have come to dislike especially in psytrance forums. One good example are the many over positive reviews and the very "personal" annoyed die-hard trancers if you dare to review a release negative.

When it comes to "The Good Old Days" I am aware of that especially newcomers have a very hard time relate to why some of us think those days were better (trance-wise). Its only natural but does not make our opinion less right.

Sorry for the off-topic rant           www.beatagency.dk

Doesn't make it any more right either.

Don't see how "better days" suddenly equals "better music". I came to realize recently that New-School Goa (the more subtle half of it) resonates with me personally much more than the Good Old Tunes. Am I sick, doctor?

P.S. The videos are cool. Obviously, those were Good Times. That's not what I ranted about.

@Beat Agency,
+1 about the dandy happy people in trance forums:) which was also the +1 of @Trance Visuals

the only thing that can kill a debate is the lack of argumentative quality. because a "debate" is based on negations of position as far as the positioning is based on arguments. otherwise there is no need to debate and we can program a forum where only the first user is allowed to state an opinion and then the topic closes with automatic happy dandy smiles of the rest of the users.

like for instance in this topic, i can say that i find the new trance boring because the old stuff has unique melodies that are memorable and catchy, and i miss this in the new stuff. this is an argument and i might have a moon smile to the ears while saying this but it will be negativity for all who do not make memorable music:).

I love the old trance. I love the new trance. There is bad old trance, there is bad new trance. How often do you see threads where people say 'oh man, the old shit sucked so much'? IDK about you, but I remember the good times and amplify them in my mind moreso than the bad times which are obliterated by the passage of time (unless they're particularly hilarious or something)

One thing that I do not see debated much or talked about is the effect that personal bias and time has on us all. IDK about you, but the more time passes the more my memory of my first trance festival fades but my mind exaggerates and fills that gap with more reverence. Was it really fuckin awesome? Yes.

As awesome as I remember it now? I don't know. One thing is for sure - the first couple times you are at a trance festival and hear good music coming out of a dialed in system and there are some good chemicals running through your system that is an AMAZING experience. I went to my first festival in 2003, way past the 'golden age' of trance according to a lot of old timers but I had an experience that was probably just as intense and special as any party held in the mid 90s...though I was in grade school at the time so I can't say for sure

For sure, there are some extremely special tracks back in the day full of memorable melodies and emotion and musical genius. However, there are tracks like that today but with better production values. Throw some Artha or some Hedonix in your ears and jump for fuckin joy.

I assume that most of the posters in this forum are from europe or at least not from the US - are the parties really that much different now? Maybe it's just me but in the US the majority of the parties are still very small and underground and so there is a lot of community spirit in them.

BTW beat agency how can your opinion be 'right' - its just your opinion. It's not right for me.

There's a fine line in these discussions. Posting videos of good old parties and seeing the birth of the trance scene? Good.

Endless discussion about how the good old days were so much better and how the music today sucks and is boring and the parties are full of junkies and not true trancers etc? Less than useful. Not saying that this thread has done so, but I've seen many threads get sucked down this hole on Isra. EVEN IF that was the case (which it isn't, at least for me and the parties I go to and the music I listen to) what good does spreading that viewpoint do? Does it help people throw better parties or make better music or instill joy in people? Not imo.

Probably every civilization has/had some kind of a Golden Age myth. Psy tribe is no different. Maybe it was something like this:
They lived in the Garden of Goa until Devil himself came over a seduced Psy-Adam and Psy-Eve with cheap microprocessors, pirated VSTs and digital mastering software suits. And thus we ate the forbidden fruit of full on. And the Psy Gods got angry and proclaimed that from now on the tribe would be doomed to living in hardship and gathering once a year in overpriced festivals with Red Bull ads. A bunch of rebels ran together to Psy Babel and started building a tower tall enough to get to the Psy Gods and renegotiate the terms of their exile. But Psy Gods saw through this ruse, so they created a bunch of subgenres to sow misunderstanding and discord among psy heads. And so they abandoned their tower and got scattered all over the place producing darkpsy, Suomi and prog. Some lost their faith entirely and started playing crap for American teenage girls. The dark times are upon us. But fear not! Soon the second coming of Goa Gil will usher the new era and he will face Yahel in a terrible battle. And a thousand years of cannabis stupor will follow his glorious victory. That’s when the Psy Gods will wipe everything out, resurrect all the faithful and dress them in tight pants and polyester shirts. They will hang a giant disco ball in the sky and throw an eternal party featuring Bee Gees on an endless loop to remind us all (for the whole eternity) where it all started.

There will be still a lot of cool innovative stuff going on in Psy Hell, but we will never know, since the only media outlet in the everlasting disco world will be [censored] TV, as enforced by the Elightened Kultur Senat.

…Or something like that.

Anyway, is there a tiny-tiny chance that we can appreciate Good Old Times without trashing our current days?

Someone should go around and find a bunch of music from the 'good old days' that just completely sucks nuts and post a whole thread of it. That'd be awesome.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe
