I personally like Allen and Heath xone:92 for mixing. Very high quality and you get 4 band eq's plus 2 lp, bp, hp filters as well..

This is the same feature many psy djs dislike about it, the 4 band eq.
However i kindda like it anyway, but i see that it might cause some problems for dj's who only saw 3 bands their entire carrer.           www.parvati-records.com

Mixers are one of those personal preference type things, since people have different styles, looking for different setups, etc.

I've been DJing for about 9 years now, and these are my experiences with Pioneer - overpriced! Decent to good quality. You do find their mixers everywhere, and everywhere I go I find something missing or busted on them. Sound quality is merely OK in my book. The effects on them are fun & easy to use. I really dislike the feel of their mixers, & all their products in general, as they all feel like cheap plastic to me.

If you are going to spend the money, I do recommend looking at Ecler, Allen & Heath, or Rane. Figure out if you really need onboard effects, effects Send/Receive, or something more simple. This will help you shorten your list.

If you are looking to save money, I would suggest Vestax & Denon as your alternative. Denon mixers are very comparable to pioneer as far as build quality & sound quality IMO, at about 2/3 to 1/2 the price. Vestax tends to be more'no frills', but built well.

NuMark, and other cheaper mixers tend to break in one way or another within 2 years. The few dollars you save will come back to haunt you. If your mixer is going to only be used at home, and you will baby it completely, you might be able to get away with it, but it's a risk you take.

Well i can see i'm all alone here...

But hey whats the point of learning on mixers that no club or promotor uses?? You should practice and play in the stantard tools... CDJS1000 and Djm800

A good DJ will not blame the equipment. If you plan on playing out, then I guarantee that you are going to run into crappy equipment, busted equipment, & equipment you are not accustomed to. I started Djing on utter shit for equipment, and it's been an absolutely huge benefit to me.

I stuck with it, practiced practiced practiced until I was completely consistent with my beatmatching & mixing skills (even though my belt-driven turn tables gave inconsistent responses). Then I got to play on the good equipment, and my beatmatching became flawless, and my mixing sounded better, but it also gave me confidence. I've seen many DJ's get angry crappy equipment & blame their bad sets on it, and then I step up & perform a perfectly acceptable set on it. As long as the equipment is reasonably consistent, you should be able to adjust to it.

Anyways, I'm not trying to rant here, or sound like I'm putting people down, I'm just saying that playing on bad equipment is a skill any serious DJ should learn to cope with.           Keep The Faith,

Its good to know that, next time i do a party with Magda or Hearthrob i will tell them that...

By the way i can assure you that almost 50% of every dj rider includes a pionner instrument... mixer or cdjs....
