yea i think the same. I've never been a big fan of alien303, it lacks some quality in the sound i think. But its easy to use and good for starters. But for a higher quality u need to proceed some other magic dust on top of the raw thing to get some killer shit out of it.

The oscilators are great on that vst, but something is wrong with the envelope, no matter how short is the decay and note, the sub freq continue to play...
This is killing the whole mix and specialy the kick. You need to make very tight compressing, or in my case i export the bass in wav and make the envelope in kontakt or edit it like a sample in cubase audio channel

I think alien 303 sounds good only with good procesing, in my case I dont use compression, I just add mono eq and some bass boost @ root key freq. And for the evelope/decay thing I use the gate knob on channel settings of FL studio and I have got some nice results but only for uplifting psytrance, in case you want a killer / agressive bass alien 303 is not the one, better try sylenth 1

i agree sylenth can be your dirty bitch xD but also u need 1-good preset 2- right compression 3 - good eq 4 - and most important - Imagination

if you have no clue about compression so probebly you will just ruin the bassline if you try to compress it. it's not that improtant for my opinion. but anyway i like to give the compressor attack about 10 ms, release about50 ms, ratio 2.5-3. i push the trashold till the volume turn down about 5 db. but i'm sure some people compress the bassline totaly different. there are no exactly rules about it. it's about taste also.

I use a similar approach to compression although my attack time is a bit longer to bring out the pluck and punch of the bass. |
