uhh.. What exactly is the difference between the old non-64 bit plugs and 64bit?
I have a new laptop running x64, it wasnt a feature I chose, but I figure I might as well take full advantage of it.
Whatever it is.
So far Im downloading 64bit versions of free Voxengo plugs, and Ive got Reaper x64, and the Melda Productions MFreeBundle.
Any others I should grab?

64 bits means u can use more than 3 g of ram...
so lets say ur daw is 64 bits as well so ur daw will be usin the maximum ram it can from ur computer...
so if u usin a 64 bits daw , u can use aswell 64 bits plugins that will be usin the whole power of ur 64 bits daw...
i dont think u can use 64 bits plugins in 32 bits daw tho. ...doesnt matter if ur computer is 64 bits...
well i tried install some 64 bits plug ins in my computer and they didnt work in my 32 bits daw ( ableton live )...

This is Win7 64 bit, CPU is x64, ive got 4gb RAM, and Reaper x64.
Im pretty sure Reaper's native Rea__ vsts run in 32bit, I used to use them often on my old machine. Oh yeah, they're available either with Reaper or without, free or rather, to keep with the theme; fRea
So, Ive got a few good mastering plugs in 64bit, and..
1 synth, Greenoak Crystal.
MDrummer is probably available 64 bit too...
Thanks for the enlightenment Vermee, Ive been wondering for a while, now that Ive got a 64 bit machine I have use for such knowledge
Gonna see waht I can do with Reaper and 64 bit ploogz... I use it for mastering and mixdowns, its not the easiest to write music in, compared to Renoise.
I haven't heard whether or not Live will be available in 64bit anytime soon but i imagine it will.

3gb RAM is teh minimum these days it seems, for cheap machines. I didnt get teh most expensive, myself, but I didn't get the cheapest, I want this laptop to last, and stay able to play live and dj sets for years to come.
For a machien that I got specifically for music, not graphics, this thing has some spiffy clean GUI. Its odd going to the old machine, 2 yrs old, and 32 bit, after staring at this HD display; its like going back to green-screen after EGA

----Studio One-----
One of the reasons veteran DAW designers Wolfgang Kundrus and Matthias Juwan jumped at the chance to create a new program was because they could totally start fresh, instead of having to deal with old code that wasn’t compatible with a next-generation audio engine.
For Studio One, they designed a highly optimized and streamlined codebase that makes minimal demands on your CPU. Studio One Pro’s 64-bit, double-precision, floating-point audio engine produces fidelity that is equal to or better than that of the other leading DAWs. And with the ability to automatically switch between 64- and 32-bit operation on the fly, Studio One Pro can accommodate any combination of 32- and 64-bit plug-ins and still maintain the best possible sound quality. Studio One Artist uses a 32-bit version of the same engine and provides sound quality that is very nearly the equal of its 64-bit sibling.
Real-time auto/manual time-stretching and resampling capabilities are seamlessly integrated. You don’t see them, you just use them.
P.S. This is really awesome Unique feature of Studio One... |
