hi everybody i have to ask a question about some kinds of leads, especially the old school goa trance like leads... they are the most important part of the old and new school goatrance tracks(is what makes the indian like or cosmic melodies), i'm trying to figure if they are made by simple saw waves or something like dat but i really don't know how to get that sound... i take as example this track from astrancer, the lead enters filtered before but you can recognize it crystal clear at 1.10 min.. any suggestion???

In my view the secret is in the notes u play, use the phrygian scale and you'll get there, then any synth can do it, u can use saw or square whatever u fell like.
sounds like a detuned saw with lp filter to me. there's nothing too special about the lead sound here.

yes i know that usually is a simple sound, and often you have to play with the filter cut off to make it like this, but i'm trying for some days to make something like dat and i'm not getting some good results(i found just some tips following how some presets are built), i'm not speaking about the scale, i know i have to follow the indians or some oriental stuff, i'm speaking about the techinique of sound!!

What do you use for trying make this ?
I have heard that kind of preset on the roland jp-8000 , analog hardware is the best for making good oldskool .
After like the other said : phrygian scale , saw and lp filter for me
You must know the indian , egyptian scale too for lead ! For 303 it's more arab scale
You must make a good mixing too , a VST can be not enough good on the first time after you mix them with overdrive , delay , reverb and it's really change .
I think don't focus too much about preset , find yours
I understand your frustration , i am making oldskool since 5 years , it's taking time

no man i'm using just virtual synths because i don't have enough cash for feed my brain with some real instruments now, i'm not asking about plug ins like reverb warm ecc( also if alien bug gave me some good tips!!!!)to make the sound deeper and fuller, just the way to make the real old school goatrance lead.. i know the scale means a lot(you must know the oriental way!!!)and i'm not focusing on the presets, i said i've just studied some presets to understand how to make it in the init patch!!!!! anyway i think i just need to work on the vst for more time, anyway i know it's not an hard sound to make and maybe is this that fucks my brain!! enchallah i'll reach my target!!!! boooooom!
oriental scales are not a necessity for oldschool goa. there loads upon loads of goa tracks that are just in natural minor. that astrancer track of course isn't one of them
i know you're not asking for vsts, but diva is awesome for vintage analog sounds; and the restrictions in the long expired beta version only is a randomly timed noise with plenty of time in between to bounce your patterns
it took me a long time before i could start to make those sounds i heard in my head in a synth and i still don't get it right as often as i'd like. we're all still learning (even the blue names), so don't worry. for every sound you fail to copy, you'll discover plenty of new ones in the process.

Well i am not on exactly 100% on the same preset but I have make something really convincing for me if you have Vanguard ?
First check this video from Cosmosis :
It's very useful ! make that first
After don't make the same parameter on Vanguard ! here is my changes :
Take a LP 12db Filter on resonance amount 60 65% , play with high cut off
Don't go on Mono but 16 voices maybe more
Add Detune on ''env 1''
Drive on Half
If you want I can send you on private what I have make, if you are not convincing but I think it's very close from this

yes it's really nice video from cosmosis(also if i usually don't do so much on vanguard cause sounds very strange in comparation to the others sounds i have in the track, ex: sounds in hp filter sound louder(comparate to other vst) also with eq etc etc but maybe is just my vision!!! anyway yes good tutorial, he explains how to make good leads with simple mooves!!! also your suggestions are useful i'm trying to put them on another vst!!! bholeeeee!!!

all about envelope settings and scale.... everything mentioned here you need except that its really about the envelope, which is set to move the filter.
try setting the sustain completely down, decay to choice, short release and attack to your needs, which makes the sound more snappy. in short term its pretty much the same like the bass filter movement. just play around with the envelope and there you go.
