Heh
@S-Cube... Well... tbh I don't know how I find the time for it either! Sitting here trying to get my damn school work finished too, while playing around with some sound FX for a friend's play, while doing my Uni application (in for tomorrow)...
It's abit of a bitch
But for sure .. next time you're in London send me a PM or something (seen you on psy-forum alot too )
@e-motion! Wicked, I'm always so glad to hear there are more young producers IMO it's all about musical and sound progression in the scene - everyone learns from and helps eachother - keeping music constant and evolving...
The young learn from the established artists, and the established artists get fresh ideas from the young ones...
Only your own knowledge and acceptance will, I feel, affect whatever music you decide to make:
Whether you be you be younger or older..
Or whether you're making trance, hip-hop, house - or anything!

In terms of sound quality, psytrance is a relatively small scene so the overall production quality isn't that good (a few exceptions like shpongle, and the x dream projects), on the other hand commercial house sort of music, the stuff that you hear on the radio, has awesome production with a huge sound, although it's true they have access to the best engineers and equipment for it... As for composition/arrangement, guess it depends who you're talking about. I'm sure hallucinogen is more complicated then any house music.. but stuff like skazi/eskimo on the other hand, arrangement isn't that complex and they tend to draw on the same effects/sounds all the time just like house producers do. |

I remember having a similar debate with a house producer once. The reasons why he thought house music was more difficult to produce was that apparently house needs to sound less synthetic than trance. All the percussion for example, needs to have a smooth, 'live' sound to it, aswell as the instruments... like sax and guitar. I had to laugh because that really has more to do with a) expensive sample cds b) getting a good musician to record from.
Overall, I'd say the creative input that needs to go into a good original psytrance production would outweigh the time it would take in getting a polished house sound.

hehehe nikc... what i feel from my experience is that youngers learn much quicker (that is normal and studied hehe... the yonger you are the less bases you have for learning but the faster you learn it) and have a different spirit (usualy we prefer music for jumping lol).
it's nice to see you have time for all of that (starting young was a great idea).
i'm 18 (19 next mounth) guess we are more or less the same age... too bad i didn't learn the piano when i was young. i wanted, it was my favorite classic instrument but my parents said "oh don't go it's too hard"... too bad but i'm still very young, no problem |

I think the actual subject is very dumb. There are tracks using very simple structures on Goa/Psy and House, and complex ones. Even techno can be very complex (think Carl Cox mix) when you have a lot of percussion loops, kicks, bass and noises going/coming, cos you have to mix each sound in the appropriated way on the frequency spectrum/stereo image. And techno doesn't have melodic complex structures. Why fight for a dumb opinion?

sonik_akb: Why do you say the topic is dumb? I was asked a question and I just wanted to know what more experienced people thought about it. I think it is a good discussion. I know it is hard to generalise all Goa Trance and House Music -- but if you were to generalise then what would you say? So nobody is fighting - we are just discussing.

Sorry dude, I think I was non-polite here...
My apologizes dopey576.
My point is: "Who's making GOA always will say it's more harder than House and vice-versa."
I think the melodic structure used on GOA may be more complex, but the whole production on both styles are similar. In fact, any kind of eletronic music demands hard hands-on and expertise from the producer.

Ciaran Welsh (Deviant Electronics) produces house these days. I havn't heard anything since "Blunt Instrument" but I doubt that what he is doing is badly produced whatever genre.
Also, a few years back I was in Spain during the Sonar festival. I didn't go but there was music from the festival on the radio all day. There was some VERY well produced house. It was better than any other house I have heard before or since. Unfortunately I have no idea who the artists where ...
Anyway, if you have trouble with your mixes, you will soon have help: http://www.rndigital.com/AutoMix.html
