I've been trying to describe Goa PsyTrance Culture (very badly) to a few friends of mine who only got into it less than a year ago.
A couple of them come from a house, drum and bass background and argue there is no difference.
So I'm hoping people on this forum are more articulate and informed than I am. My questions are...

a) Is Goa PsyTrance a subculture? If so, what are its values and philosophies?

b) If you think it is different from House, Drum & Bass, Techno subcultures. How is it different?

c) If you like Goa PsyTrance culture, why do you like these parties more than other parties (Drum & Bass... etc) except for the music?

I tried to talk about psychedelic philosophy, outdoors, nature, spirit, type of thinking to my friends but I just couldn't get through!!! Is there something different about trance compared to other genres? or am I a raving lunatic!           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

Ha ha... bit surprised to see this here!! As the 'one of those friends' you couldn't get through to, I'll only say this...I'm not saying there is 'no difference', I'm saying the differences are not big enough to dismiss another 'genre' as not being 'meaningful', and that the similarities are far bigger than the differences..at the non-commercial, cutting edge, 'good end', whatever you want to call it, it's people making and listening to a music that speaks for and to them! That's the base, I think... most of us here think trance does it best (at this time in our lives perhaps..), but others think differently, and that's great... they are no different than us in that I think....

Anyhow, even though we bat heads on this thing, we agree on a lot more don't we mate!?!?

Hey Sickboy,
I agree with you completely on what you said.
I think your energy, dedication and enthusiasm in helping to put on great parties epitomizes the spirit I admire in people who make this scene great.

But again to put words into my mouth and say I dismiss other genres as not meaningful is not true. I respect people who are into other genres, after all I started off with House and Techno before discovering Trance.

If a metal head says pop music sux he's entitled to his opinion. If I say I cant get into Drum & Bass or Guitars in Trance suck - that's my opinion. Each to their own I say.

The reason why I posted this here is to find answers to the 3 questions I asked in my post. I hope people can answer these questions for me and help me understand better. To understand the differences is also important I think.

Bom!           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.
