dont you think he's quite manipulative in his way of playing 12-24 hours more or less the same music/mood? imho he stucks somewhere if he enjoys only one particular mood of psytrance although he is a "sadhu/saint" ... i mean, where is the experimental/playful side there which makes music really interesting and different?

imho its boring, hard and sometimes really depressing ... its such a 2-dimensional sound for such a long time in a row ... letz go back 3d

nevertheless i am quite able to enjoy it ... at least for 2-3 hours

ok, just wanted to give my review after seeing him play last saturday in los angeles.

Full power psychedelic is the best way to describe it. It's not 'dark', it's just full power. To make it any less would be cheesy. Actually the only track I dropped my fists to my sides for was a remix of skazi hit and run. Of course the track was a sledgehammer version, but still... Other than that, everything he played was heavy psychedelic. Just how I like it.

What also amazed me was the mixing. I keep hearing about how he train wrecks bla bla bla, but there was no train wrecking that I heard. Were tracks premixed? has he just gotten good? I tried watching him, but didn't really want to waste my time. rather be in front of the speakers.

I got there at 1am and stayed till about 11am, so didn't get a chance to hear everything. I would have loved to hear the afternoon stuff. Someone said he'd be playing my beloved Suomi at that time. Would have like to hear if that was true.
This was the first party I've been to in many many years where the music never got cheesy or weak. Loved it.

over the last 8 years i have gone to gil parties 8 times. the first party was awesome in so many ways, so new and trippy and intense.

Gil used to 'trainwreck' a lot more than he does now. Gil does not play pre-mixed tracks, he tends to do ambient mixes, but man, the way he does it is mad trippy!!!

the gil music has changed a lot over the years. was only 4 years ago he was playing digital talk and really uppitty music at the party, more in the 148bpm and dancy kind of stuff. He has definitely been playing faster music over the years, and tends to play a longer section of really fast music, like the 170's.

I hear a lot of people like chuha, who say that gil plays the same thing for 24 hours. this is a shallow view of the party. Gil DOES have his sound, it is very full-power, relentless, there is a quickness in the bass and all of that. It is not true though that he plays the same style, though there are similarities.

the fact is, gil does what he does. i think it is hilarious when people complain about gils music or the party. he is the master. when he is gone, psytrance will be very different than it is now. Gil is not here to Entertain you with fun music, he is here to SUBJECT you to the trance experience. not the party experience, or the rave experience, or even the music experience... but the TRANCE experience.

If you think his music sounds the same, it is just because he is so damn good at the trance, and he is bringing a totally different kind of trance experience to the scene. close your eyes and move around a little bit, you will understand. gil party is not for complaining about the music, his party is not about the tracks, it is about the experience.

you nailed it squee.

To me it's like one long track and what's changing and morphing is my own mind, feelings and consciousness. Basking in the ocean of an endless unrelenting sound. Come in stiff and crusty and cynical. walk right up to the speakers and let the pounding kick shake that shit right out of you till your swaying and letting it all out. catch yourself arms wide, flying through space with a content grin on your face. Touch down is whenever you want, cos the power is always there to tap again.
That's what I dig about it. He keeps the power on the whole time giving me the space to go where I want and need to go.
I'm so glad someone is there to do this (and with no ego to gratify!)
