His holy side is a very different story all together, he was meditating in the Himalaya's when i was 4 yrs old he!he!he! but we all agree he plays dark sets, people who go to listen to him know what he plays, promoters who book him know what he plays, some people who don't like dark psy, i agree can have a terrible time. Some people don't like pop trance the same way. Baba ji let it go, we should talk more of what people like rather than dislike. Good vibes to everyone involved in the scene.
Respect.

I'v had the pleasure to see Gil in action a few times. Most of the times this was in Goa, and the vibe was amazing!!! I'v never been to the Gil parties here in NorCal, I will go to my first one here next week in SoCal. It should be awesome...
Baba doesn't have the best mixing but track selection is good. The music he plays is definatly psychedelic.

Baba is definitely a very good name for him!
And nothing bad about mentioning some negative points either. I am sick and tired of people who only want to hear the positive side of things.
In order to have the beautiful rise of positive vibes on the dance floor at sunrise, you first have to go through the dark negative abysses before, so that you can really take off when the turning point comes.
Meaning, you need the negative as much as the positive, and I know Gil would agree ;-)
And having said that, I much preferred the last set I heard from you at Organix Pete. It was a year ago, but you definitely kicked ass. Much better for me then Gil

Even if he can't mix, what he plays does not give you time to think of sitting down for his set. Its pure stomping till the end.

Thank you for ur kind words Upavas. Last, I heard gil play was in 2001-2002 season at german bakery (Goa). I have not heard him since. He has been doing the same ritual for years now. People around the world know what he plays, he is known for the style of trance he plays. Portland crew do a party with him every year. A lot of people go from Vancouver. The music he plays is not really commercial trance but what can u do, he has his own style of music. Same way Oli Wisdom, his style of playing and producing has been the same for years. I love Oli, he is great. Mark @ Xenomorph, brilliant music, u know what style u r gonna get. These guys are pioneers at what they do, I am sure they wanna be remembered that way. Now after all these years, r u implying that they should change there style cause a few people did not like the style of music????? You have to be the party of the party to enjoy it, u cannot enjoy it by being an outsider. So first a person has to enjoy the music they play. Most of the stuff Baba Gil plays is unreleased, some really dark & weird stuff he!he!he! but pure psychedelic Mind benders. Baba, some artist have not changed with commercialization of the psy trance scene. To make people happy look what is happening to Infected Mushroom, I have great respect for Erez as a sound engineer. They r doing freaking cover versions for Jim Morisson these days.

Do u think Infected Mushroom, once they r gone will be remembered as a psychedelic band???? Do u think Infected will ever be Juno Reactor???? I am sure once Goa Gil is gone he will be remembered as a messiah of dark trance (For some of us at least)

Gil used to be a messiah of psychedelic music (see his old Divine Dozens). But now it seems he is a messiah of dark trance??? hmm, seems sad to me.
Oh well, he is playing here next weekend and I look forward to it with an open mind and open heart because I like journeys and am open to see where his set takes me. All aboard!

Gil was also known as the menace of Goa, mainly because he pissed as many people of as he made happy...
Pete, I am not at all into commercial poppy tunes. Nowadays I am more into the Progressive side of things, Olli btw. was one of the first to release sound. And I remember a full moon party by him in Anjuna (I think it was winter 93) or so which was out of this world... Miles better for my taste then Gil will ever be...
I am not implying anyone should change their style, please see a previous post... I am merely saying Gil was not , is not and will likely not be for me ;-) ever!
As for being an outsider, in a way I have always been an outsider, even though I played all over the world, including in Goa (Shorebar and a party in Anjuna...), I like to be in the crowd but not of the crowd. It is strange, back in the first generation of Goa I was the insider, nowadays I feel more and more like an outsider...
I see many people going to Goa parties with a certain set of ideologies, I know these ideologies well, I did the same trip when I was in Goa and for years after. The idea for me when I go to a party nowadays is to simply enjoy myself, without a certain set of rules or ideas, simply being myself, no ideas, ideologies or anything like it, without all the holy baba stuff...
I do not condemn the people who go for the Goa trip, not at all, I am just saying that for me this idea has come to pass.
Nowadays the sound has mostly become too pop style like for my taste, which is why I have completely stopped djing and am solely making my own sound nowadays, that is when I have time... and there is not much of that these days......
And btw. Please let me know when you play @ Organix again, lets have a beer there and some tunes...

Don't we all love happy, smiling, tripping trippers he!he!he!.
Baba Upavas, if u would like to listen to Oli again, I am gonna book him for my festival in June'09. You can listen to him here in Vancouver. Last time he did a five hour set. Also, I am leaving in November for three months to visit mother India for some shanti time. I think I will be playing @ Organix in March now for Mahashivratri. Regarding a beer, I don't drink but I will love to get together with u for a session of reefer madness.
Peace

How did Baba Gil manage to piss people off? Curious to know why he was 'menace of Goa'...?
