So much hype about his crazy sets but it's not a mystery what he plays. 20 hours of one style? Can there be that much dynamics in a 20 hour set with one style?

Its not that he plays the same style, its just that you cant comprehend the difference between them. Even though i have never experienced his set, i do know for a fact that what he plays between 1am-3am is very different from what he plays at say 7 am or any other time.

Apparently there was a set in San Francisco where they got tired of him after playing like a whole day, he wouldn't stop and they finally set up another dj stage and cut the signal from his. They say it took him a couple hours to figure out what the hell was going on. That to me is true devotion to ones music.
Since he was in Goa he obviously knows what to play when, to go easy in the beginning, take it deeper and deeper and more negative and more negative, before the sun rises you take the whole dark sound to it's deepest and meanest, and when the sun rises, you start beautiful fluffy tunes, kind of with a progressive positive vibe. Going from the deep dark depths to the heights of positive sound scapes has always been the number 1 thrill on any party for me.
This concept is certainly from Goa...

Hmm. That to me sounds like he doesn't really know what he's doing and has lost touch with his listeners.
But then, it was san francisco. not very psychedelic there anymore. psychedelic music is too distracting for the people chit chatting on the dance floor and occasionally smiling at the funny old hippy with the tye dye cape.
I want Gil to play Suomi soundi.
In an elf suit, preferably.

Uh.... I don't know which party you guys are talking about, but I've been going to gil at least 1 out of the two shows he does every year since 02 and this has never happened.....
Not to mention, if it did, do you think Gil would still play in Nor Cal? Let's be logical before we pull some statements out of our rectum eh?

No disrespect to SF, it's my hometown and carries the blood of my ancestors, but when I see scenester shit going on at psy parties there I want to ship 'em all out in vats of olive oil.
I hope that story isn't true because it really says something about SF or Gil or both and would be too bad.

I've seen scenester shit everywhere.... It's not just a SF thing or a US thing... it exists anywhere there is any sort of "avant-garde" community that mixes intoxicants with social interaction... The unfortunate nature of humans...

Dude, this happened years ago...
To be quite honest, Gil never knew how to properly mix, not back then and not now. And after more than 24 hours of playing I probably wouldn't know what I'm doing either.
And what does my rectum have to do with all this?
As far as Gil is concerned I can honestly say I have held back, so please give me a break man...

It's so endless to argue about Gil but im in the mood now. First of all If you don't admit what he is doing, you just don't go at his parties so you don't have to tire yourself with complaining after all...
I don't care about rumours, I have my own personal experiences, and what i can tell you for sure is that Gil exactly knows what's going on on the dancefloor. He remembers even the people he had never seen before, and can tell how they acted, how they danced, and what tracks they liked especially, + next year he'll recognize them. Sometimes he is more up to date of what and when I was doing on the party, than myself. The dancefloor is a holy place for him and he really pays attention on what is going out there, believe me.
It's also not true that he plays the same style for 24 hours. Of course trance music is built on a basic monotonity, (that's how it drives you being in trance) but he plays very different styles in between, depends on what period of the day. You don't need to be a super musical talent to recognize this.
I understand and accept, that not everbody likes what he is doing, but I can not understand the disrespectful and mindless ways of sharing oppinions. (mk47, grow up man!)
Have a nice day to all.

Can any promoters from San Fran plz confirm this, otherwise it is just another bullshit???? I have been living on the west coast for last 7 years (Playing and promoting parties) and I have never heard of this before. Regarding what he plays, He enjoys what he plays, People enjoy what he plays, maybe some people are not into the style he plays which is completely understandable but don't bash the shit out of an artist plz and speacially who have devoted there lives to put Goa and Goa trance on the world map. He doesn't deserve this, His music speaks for him, Bom.

I'm just browsing through his Divine Dozen lists since the 90s and looks like these days the lists are not so diverse. If all he finds psychedelic out there is 'dark psy', seems kind of stuck to me.

He has always liked the dark side of trance, even back in the days.
I am not trashing Gil here, and no one said that he plays the same sound for 24 hours (see a previous post of mine) ... Mind you, I have plenty more stories to trash him from the old days(80ies), but I won't!
There are good sides to him and as many bad sides.
Actually makes him whole on a human level. I have had a personal experience with him where he was quite nice, I lost a jacket with money on a party in Anjuna and he kept it for me until I picked it up. So from a human standpoint the guy is definitely allright.
from a musical standpoint I think there is lots better out there, however, as long as people like his stuff, no worries eh?
For me there is not enough flow during his transitions, no real mixing, and I do get bored with dark sound after a while, so as I said, not my style.
Pete, just because someone promotes Goa sound for most his life that doesn't make them holy!
