Gil's devotees claim that his mixing is part of the whole experience.

I went to my first Gil party last year expecting garbage mixing, but um, it wasn't that bad actually. mostly ambient fades. and I much prefer mixing intros and outro than the typical DJ tricks anyway.
DJ tricks = DJ ego = disturbing my trip.

No offense, but you are fucking retarded. You obviously have no idea of what a DJ does. You mean to tell me that you have heard DJ Tricks with psytrance? Like what? DJ Tricks are used to enhance the mix. So, I doubt that a hip-hop dj is going to scratch and cut psytrance.
So, what you actually have not heard is a DJ that can mix psytrance. And you prefer the ambient mixing? Why don't you just put a bunch of psytrance on itunes and have the tracks play back to back with cross-fades. Because, the ambient mixing you refer, is not mixing it is cross-fading. The reason that Gilligan does this is because he can beatmatch. And you should know this because even ambient mixing requires beatmatching. You can't just put two ambient tracks together at different bpms and yo have to drop in the other track at the correct time. The Stockholm Syndrome of Psytrance that you have is a major obstruction to the musics progression. Please, don't set the idea that goa gil is acceptable by justifying his shit mixing with false logic. You want to hear a real psytrance DJ Mix?

No offense, but your mix sounds gay to me. Mr DJ Max Factor 1955.

I usually see it as a test, a survival game. And those who will pass the test and accomplish the mission will survive to listen to the good stuff! This doubles the pleasure of the morning tunes!

Hehe I too love a good endurance test.

Seriously though I got too sick of having a bunch of 'beer' and getting really 'drunk' only to discover that half or more of my trip has been wasted on completely undanceable shit noise.

I've since switched to getting a bit of sleep in the night and having my fun in the early morning and my enjoyment at fests has skyrocketed

oh and @ rich/DJmaxfactor1995...

Yeah, DJ tricks can be used to enhance the mix..but they can also do it a disservice. When I mix busier psytrance I like to make it as clean and smooth as possible with a minimum of DJ tricks. It's one thing if you're mixing stuff with a little more space like prog or techno etc.

However I feel that some psy is so well crafted and is such a journey in its own right that I feel it doesn't sound good to mix it until some of the elements drop out...or to do the simple mix of dropping in the first kick of the new track on the last kick of the old track, etc.

For that style of psy I find the DJ's job is less enhancing the mix with tricks (as the mix is so good already...) and whatnot and more about the track selection and smooth mixing to keep the trance going.

There are no rules of course - I've been having a lot of fun lately with long harmonic psy mixing, though it's usually the progressive psy/zenon style stuff that I do that with.           If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

I actually pressed play several times and I can confirm it sounds extremely gay. Both Raja Ram and Goa Gil heavily dissaprove

Xenomorph also dissaproves.

why is it that a bunch of forward thinking, at least semi-intelligent people spend so much time talking about other guys that have made a living on what we like?

so the suck/don't suck…. who fucking cares, pay for tickets or don't. just do better than them and move on.

Actually, I know you. Please, don't come out here. "Don't ask, Don't tell."

You are calling me gay? You are promoting a psychedelic freak show on an Indian Reservation and charging $60+... And, no line-up. Well, you obviously are an expert pillow-biter. Because that party sounds like you get ass-pooned just getting tickets.

Please use logic and reason to support your claim. The transparent, plastic-like rhetoric that you are regurgitating just proves that your value system is completely flawed.

And as for my mixing:
I know that it is unorthodox and out of context at times. But, that is exactly what I want. If you understand this than you would know that you are actually saying that Etnica, KoxBox, and Hallucinogen sound gay. I think they sound fantastic and that is expressed in the mixing. How can you not get fired up and passionate when you hear these legendary tracks mixed in a way that you probably didn't even recognize them? That is a dysfunction of your antiquated values.           â€śIt’s not the daily increase but daily decrease. Hack away at the unessential.”

I personally have been into Darkpsytrance since 2001 and back those days there were few dark psy trance artists. If you check Goa Gil's charts and you have been following the evolution of psytrance (i.e from Astral projection to old Absolum, Logic Bomb, Penta, old Azax Syndrom to Horror Place to the so annoying and shitty called"psycore" Glosolalia, Will O Wisp and all that shit) you will probably understand more this message. So, back then there were not really many Darkpsy trance artists as today, and I have to admit that he was playing really good stuff back then. (quallity is not the same as quantity to this point)

Anyway, I atended to 3 Goa Gil parties and after attending one after another i think the idea of him being kinda a guru of darkpsy is just fucking bullshit. .

Those days, yeah, he was playing good stuff but nowadays he plays everything he gets from any "producer" out there. Yes, now he plays any track he gets without listening it first, he just plays it randomly, and he has admitted it in some interview videos outhere in youtube. Personally, i sent him once one track i produced myself, and yeah, he played at one of the parties i attended! (in my opinion my own track was very shitty)

Moreover, he doesnt care if the tracks are being well produced, equalized, mastered... the over saturation of some of the tracks he plays is just fucking annoying.

After listening some other artists djing i could realize what is a real djing and what is about selecting the tracks to create that "trance" or what goa gil ridiculously call a "ritual" guided by a "guru" i think that this guy is a joke, making the big money for his retirement.

But fortunatelly there is the other story, thanks to this guy, now i can distinguish what is a poor quality production and what is a good quality production (mastering, mixing etc) and what a good dj with technique is

So thank you Goa Gil and now i prefer listening to other djs with a well selected tracklist and not instead of a guy playing distorted music damaging my ears for 12 hours pretending he is the guru of psytrance.

I understand what other people have commented about that fucking quickly nonsense psycore shit, it is just fucking annoying, if id listen to fast stuff, i would listen to darkstep, gabber, hard techno, death metal or something fast but well produced and mixed, not this annoying non-psytrance shit. (just my opinion )

The point of this message is just to say that the dark psytrance scene is dying or almost death, and goa gil is distorting what is good produced stuff and what is shit production. Yeah i admit i attended to some of his parties, but thank god i realized about what was really happening in the scene. Quallity is better than quantity. Enough said....

By the way Raja Ram sucks
