Look.. you all are free to enjoy your self's and have a grand old time at Gil events. Taste is subjective... and if what Gil does, happens to do it for you... then so be it...
But first off @ Gypsy.... (this is what set me off in the first place) don't demand or tell me anyone deserves my respect... especially when in my eyes and thru my own personal experiences... they are a dick, asshole and hack...
You may respect him, fine. Feel free to delude yourself however you want. But where do you have the right to demand such a thing for someone else?
I myself may be a dick and a asshole as well (takes one to know after all) but at least I'm up front with it, and don't hide it behind a mask of hippie bull shit.

@ Squee... the creation of art, does not automatically excuse a person or transcend them, just because they created something.
Your statement is very blanket, and suggests that all art, regardless of quality or intent deserves praise. If that is indeed your thoughts on the matter, you are certainly entitled to them, I however do not share them.... Just because someone does something, or even attempts a effort, does not automatically ensure that they deserve a pat on the back.
Some art, is just pure crap with out any redemption to it.
(note this statement is not directed at Gil, or even music but is just a comment to art in general)

Penn Jillete, of Penn & Teller and fame, is also the host of a syndicated show called Bullshit. He is a loud mouth opinionated s-o-b, who's mission in life is too debunk false hoods, expose frauds... and in general just call bullshit on those topics he finds deserve it

Man paradigm, stop whimpering like a two year old. Nobody holds the rights to any day of the calendar. Yes Gil can't mix and I don't like his music now, but there's no doubt his earlier compilations were awesome. As for you, no doubt your mixing is tight, but your music sucks and has made many people I know suffer.
So, what does that conclude? You have shitty tastes? Your a pillhead? It's all subjective. If you have a problem don't go to Gil parties. But stop being a buzzkill though. Bozo. |

again... taste is subjective... I dont represent myself to be something I'm not.... Gil does....Not every one will agree with this, but again Ive personally seen plenty of evidence to support my opinion on it.
Lots of people love what i do, and I'm sure there are a fair amount who don't. So fucking what. It comes with the territory of being a DJ.

penn not only debunks false hoods but is also a professional illusionist...so who is debunking what and for what purpose? Paradigm, how did you get "dragged" back into this thread, you make it sound like people are FORCING you to argue...
Gil is the only artist around that ALWAYS has people coming on to express their distaste for his music...
Any artist whose mere name elicits such strong reactions is doing something that is, at least, interesting.
This thread is kind of stunning.
Funny how these same people who get all nasty, name calling, shit talking, and such would probably be (or have been) on a dance floor together, smiling...

It baffles me to see the same dog-chasing-tail threads over and over on this former-forum never get locked.
And when actual thought provoking topics issues get addressed / or even dj mix threads get posted they get locked overnight no problem.
Really, what good is this bantering to our community? If anything this is what's tearing at the seams of our scene. Forget the rest.
The reason I say former-forum is because obviously we have degraded ourselves.
Great job Admins.
Now lock this fucking thread and throw away the key.

Why would anyone want to have this thread locked? At some point, maybe we can be adults and settle an ongoing thread that comes up every year without it getting blocked. show that we can evolve as an community instead of coining IsraTrance as a joke. Difficulties are opportunities to better things, they are stepping stones to greater experiences. You dorks, do none of youens want to get past this?

Wow!!! Us East coast or Easterners thought we had Gil drama... I would the drama isn't the same due to us Easterners finding the music on our own and the Westerners had Gil show them, causing a judgment view of being devotees, i guess??? About this time last year a similar hater Gil program came about. Well, it was more about Neuro/QuantumTrance with Gil as the poster child to pick apart. The Lizzard was involved and was confused as a devotee to Gil, my argument then was about the music and my personal approach to fast rpms like field balancing and such. Not the same program here at all, ya think? Below is a link that was to be used if another peep came about knocking the music but this post is a bit different. it's a long read but made it 15 pages before getting blocked. made no sense because the debate was over.

I've never been to a Portland show so I have no clue how it works there, I have partaken in Arkansas, Birthday, Memorial day and at ground zero the East which evolved into Mantra of Bliss.. If you like, i can even break that name down so you understand its direction but lets eat some wolfberries..
Never done Portland as said but I have worked with what's his name from there on several other events who happens to be a Gil member...Boy, that fellow is a trip if you think Gil is...

-History- did you know that there are a few other peeps like that who also do what Gil does with the exception of being a Baba and are under the radar?.. One of them is older than Gil by 10 plus years and plays even harder music but plays once in a while. Doravan or something like that, others as well but almost impossible to find...they don't like the radar..
-PERSONALLY- I've never had that energy in my face, we pay or have volunteers that deal with the stresses of a traveling performer. However, I have had that energy in my face from a SF Gil crew member that I've worked with... Boy, what a shock, I'm still waiting for that person to get over themselves so we can move forward...
-PROFESSIONALLY- Our contract was only vocal, the table height is really good, it keeps you from bending your back...Hidden variables do apply in working with other Gil crew members for sure...
-SKILLS- this will bleed into Professionalism and Structure another time...

I'm leaving out my personal experiences but I will say he is fun to chill with and has some very nice friends that have 30 to 40 years time with him. Very nice taste for wine.. The original concept of Gil playing solo was to offer a lower fee than booking all the artist with the tracks you could only hear from them, very good idea and less stress for the organizer... Times have changed since I know a 3 day can be cheaper than a Gil 1 day... A.U.M. was a 5 days at only double the expense than a Gil show, 2 stages with sound...Also, there where less Dj's then...
What's this crap that Gil plays other forms of music like chill or whatever you Westerners are saying.. The only reason he plays more of the fluffy stuff that's more mellow proggy neuroish almost quantum regardless of the BPM because the Westerners did a petition saying he wasn't playing danceable music and it hurt their feelings, I say "learn to let go and dance"... He is making you feel good too, since a lot of the softer more cluby new sound artist are from Cali...Gil plays the same two sounds, Neuro  Quantum.. Yes, he does drop new frequencies so that could be where your getting confused or its the intro or intermission.. I'm just glad to see Gil's keeping up with the new sound. He was a bit slow at first, the East was turning happy Neuro butts a few years before Trauma... Sorry for the rant, why should I be sorry for saying the truth.. lol... Joking as I stick a pickle in my mouth..
