PROFESSIONAL: People CHOOSE to book him, they know what he demands, and they make the business choice to hire him. Having absurd demands? Who cares? If you don't like it don't hire him, it reflects NONE on the quality of an event.
PERSONAL: I know plenty of artists who make incredible music/art and are jackasses, I could care less, art/creativity transcends personal neurosis and flaws. Its a plus when artists are nice folks, but not necessary to be a talented human being who produces fantastic events.
SKILLS: Only plays for himself and kills dance floors without caring? Sounds as if you are projecting some serious shit on this man. Produces with Fruity Loops, sheesh so do Wisp and Fraggletrollet and a hand full of other artists who are INCREDIBLE and talented individuals (though I have never been a big nommos fan).
Only plays by himself as a complaint? WHY, if you hate his deal so much this seems like a fantastic complaint, and for the people who like him its a great deal as well.
Frankly your comments about drinking the coolade and accusations of idol worship make you sounds like the arrogant judgemental individual in this discussion. Yes people go over board with Gil but plenty go because he plays tracks they like for 24 hours, in a cohesive set.
And then calling him a "bad DJ", maybe a poor mixer, but really man, I don't think anyone who gets a dance floor rocking and provides a beautiful trance space is a "bad DJ".

For the record I think the dark vs fullon schism is really lame and I wish people would go back to making music which is both psychedelic and melodic

I could sit here for 5 hours writing a dissertation on how much i dislike 'Chumba Wumba' or ya i could spend 5 hours speaking of how much i dislike the majority of what is considered Progressive Psytrance.
The fact is, I don't. The reason is, because there is little point in bitching to people that like something about something that you personally don't like. Yes, I can't stand lots of music... so maybe I should go to the Astrix thread and start a flame war about how his last bassline almost made me throwup? NO, not necessary... unless I just want a rise out of people.
I am not saying some of you are less, somehow, because you don't like Gil. I am not even saying anything derogatory in implying that maybe you just don't get it. ITS OKAY GUYS, YOUR BUTT CAN STOP HURTING NOW!!! I don't GET U2, I don't GET Astrix. I don't care about them one bit and I have no issue with the thousands of people out there that like U2 and Astrix. I don't go to forums trying to convince those people that the music that makes them happy is just bullshit and comes from a person that has no respect or care towards the people that love what he does. In fact, I don't even care what those artists are like, cuz i don't listen to their music and don't go to their shows!
Get over yourselves and your attachment to your opinions. Stop fighting over meaningless redundancies.
I have an idea... seems a little crazy, but maybe give it a shot. try searching Gil on isra and see if you can't find your very same argument posted and reposted and triposted everywhere that Gil's name is mentioned. Do you think that you are giving people some insight? Like, maybe if i tell people about how bad gil is, just one more time, maybe then they will finally realize and come to their senses.....?! dude, yesterday i read this post about gil that paradigm wrote... and man... i just don't think i can go to gil parties anymore. i mean, he said that gil doesn't beat match and he said and he said and BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.

this has nothing to do with the 'seperation of dark and melodic' or anything of the sort. this has to do with one artist that everyone seems to have an opinion about.

ART IS BIGGER THAN GOA GIL!!! if you, as a person sitting in your house, make a song, or an artwork for your wall, or you build a structure out of logs and leaves, you just took part in something BIGGER THAN YOU. You created art, and no matter how much of an asshole you are, that has nothing to do with the little creation that is in front of you. The only way that you being an asshole will effect anyone is if they choose to apply your character to your art. Who cares? If you don't like the art, don't look at it. if you don't like the artist enough to not wanna be at his show, then i dunno, DON'T GO TO HIS SHOW!
sorry this is so redundant, but god this discussion is much like running into a wall covered in sandpaper and lemon juice, over and over. you might dent the wall a little, but all you really did was make your face look stupid and all stingy.
i have no ill will towards 11evin or paradigm or anyone here, i have had this talk 252 times already in person and in posts, and i will undoubtedly be dragged through this mud another 468 times before all is said and done. Maybe one day when Gil retires, everyone will consider letting go of it all, but probably not.

there are much more beneficial ways to release brain chemistry.
Arguments are an agreement that all involved parties are willing to continue being increasingly rediculous untill theyve gotten their brain chem fix or are strung out from it. Debates are just pre-arguments.
there is a vast world inside your head outside of your opinions and beliefs. We are the box that we dont think we are trapped in. You cant think outside of the box if you are too busy being the box.
just being is enough we dont have to prove our validity to eachother. Really how many of you out there have strong opinions on this man... Now WHY he is just a man most of us dont and wont ever know him...so why in the bloody hell do we want to be in conflict with anyone else or oursleves based off of what music some dude is playing.
PERHAPS this is a good time to say live and let live.

well i doo too but you cant trust them this i have learned Never trust a turtle cause turtles will turn you to bloooood. and they will also hide around corners and jump out and scare you because THEY think its soooo funny.... the real question is whats your opinion on tortoises?

thank you so much Goa Gil and family for coming out to Outer Realms!!! Im so sorry the venue had to be switched in the middle of the night such a horrible timing for Gil to come out party at such a raging party a yin and yang experience for me all wrapped up in one. but people came out by the hordes anyways to the after party and danced all night to Chuck and fam and into the morning! this scene is beyond wonderful... all you make me teary eyed :*) all of you keep coming out to all the great parties out there!
next time I promise I personally will make sure all permits are fully obtained no matter how many loooud and crowded parties have been there week after week month after month without any problems whatsoever before...
