(they mostly do minimal/detroit, but it's GOOD minimal/detroit)
As for acid techno and schranz, promoters occasionally book that. Talk to Rocky aka 5-MeO from acid totem if you want more nfo on that. |

Acid Totem can be a bit to mellow for me, but then again i'm bias because of DEFSF. Looking forward to their indoor renegade, someone should check it out an possible do a trance gathering there... hmm someone |

Acid totem is usually on the acid house and breaks side, but 5-MeO has been known to play hard acid techno sometimes (like he did at Psymbolic 4) |

I know I am chiming in a little late here, but as far as throwing parties on the same date... this all seems very silly.
i believe there are certain dates that most certainly cannot be owned by a crew, the solstices, the equinoxes, holidays in general including new years. these days especially are the ones that we all choose to do what we would most want to do, and having more options is not a negative thing.
i know its sad to have a good friend of yours 200 miles away celebrating new years at a different event, but k'mon, you both were still partying together!
no one owns dates, and fighting over same date events that are 100's of miles seperate is ludicrous. not everyone can travel to party, and on new years especially, people like to party hop, so give them the options!
wish i coulda made it down for the weekend, im glad that gil brought in the new year!
and also, i hadn't gotten the memo about the sf scene dying, being 1000 miles north i was under the impression that some really good things are going on down there oh wait,... they are! the whole world of psytrance is talking of lower attendance, the pendulum swings. our events here in oregon have seen a small jump in attendance this year and have found some new and exciting energy that will be moving us into the next decade. i don't, in any way think that the scene is dying, i think as long as the music is changing and staying fresh, we will be losing some of our old friends and gaining many new ones, its just the way of the people.

there has been a clear division/split of the scenes in the last few years i have been here and going to all events across the board.....i personally support all scenes and crews and think if we could not throw parties at the same time it would really be beneficial to all of us with an overall small scene in the U.S......we all have good intentions for the scene.....
i'm not too big of a fan of a candy raver scene or whatsoever, but if all of our parties were to be 21 and over, some crews simply could not afford international acts and the numbers would be much smaller on the attendance therefore leading to more hurting on organizers...
ive been to all the dark parties eventhough i'm not too much of dark music fan but why shouldnt the whole scene be one united family? we plan to precisely try to contribute to bringing everyone together regardless of their musical taste....

EVERY DJ does this. Everyone has their niche.
When you go to hear me play, you know your going to get a certain sound. When you go to hear Random, your going to hear a certain sound. When you go to hear Gil, your going to hear a certain sound (and Gil fans, dont try and say thats not true, cause we all know it is). Thats what makes a DJ a DJ and gives them their popularity. Granted the better of us, do vary what we play, and not lock into one exact thing of another, so to have a degree of variety in a set, and not just play stuff from a certain label, but there also needs to be a certain degree of cohesiveness in a set for it to make sense.
Now that being said, outside of any 1 given set, you may hear someone play something outside their norm. Like me playing the occasional minimal set, or Helio's playing a progressive set, but still even with in those confines your going to hear the elements of style and sound that particular DJ is attracted to.
Its the nature of the beast.

Actually gil is the only dj I've heard that plays every style and every bpm of trance... except cheesy full on of course. At the bday he even played tech and progressive in the end. And in memorial day he had a looooong section ranging from 148 down to something like 142, very funky.
Its best if he's in a good mood.
So... to get back on topic here... who laSted all the way til the end of gils set nye? What did he play in the last hour or so? |

Gil, progressive really? I have a very hard time with believing that. 142 BTW is not progressive. Tho i suppose its all relative. Compared to 165+ 142 is progressive. If Gil got down to 128-130 id be impressed.
and once upon a time Gil did play full on. Most of you forget that Gil's MO, is he has always played the hardest stuff out at that time.
When Neuromotor was the most balls to the wall stuff, thats what Gil was pushing.

You might think djs only play one type of sound if they're only playing for an hour. I play all types of psychedelic music and try to fuse different styles together. That's the fun part of it all- to me anyway
