more often than not it's venue price that drives up the cost of an event... let's not forget that an area's cost of living can significantly drive up the price of an event. it also could mean that the acts that are coming are a bit more expensive whether it's in their fee or getting them there...

Cost of living sure can drive up prices, not in this case... The cost of living is lower in Asheville vs. SF, hands down at 90% more, unless your talking housing then it's 194% more. Oregon is 11% more expensive and health is the biggest difference at 34% greater. Cupidity, simply an extreme greed for material wealth, a disposition aroused by a real wrong, like a deadly sin 
Other venue's have been given as options to get cost down and lower crew/social/family dynamics. It was rejected due to an experience being altered to a lesser value of importance  You have got to be kidding me, what's less than the value of experience in music, family and dance? 
You don't get it!!! I've said that and never had anyone ask what there is to be gotten...WOW!!! What a choice, that question gives three paths to pick from as answers.
