Just an observation of how his style has changed since the Disco Valley days :
Goa Gil's Chart for June 1996
Doof - Angelina - T.I.P.
Koxbox - Stratosfear - Blue Room
Rhythmystic - Cathexis - Matsuri
The Infinity Project - The World of the Acid Dealer - T.I.P.
Juno Reactor - Feel the Universe ( Koxbox Remix ) - Blue Room
Reflecta - Creatures - PsyHarmonics
Cosmosis - Cosmology - Transient
Phreaky - Paranormal Activity - Dragonfly
Orichalcum - Curse of Uqbar - T.I.P.
Astral Projection - Trust in Trance - T.I.P.
Various Artists - Blue Compilation - T.I.P.
Goa Gil's Chart for Feb. 2006
Terminator - Psychedelic High (Vertigo Records)
The Nommos - Happy Hofmann 100 (Dropout Records)
Kindzadza - Next Sequence (Insomnia Records)
Psykovsky - Beloochi Remix (Vertigo Records)
Metallaxis - Symbols And Numbers (Dropout Records)
Horror Place - Phenix (Phreex Networx)
Alien Mental- Nukem (Golden Dawn Records)
Osom- Be Cool (Noise Poison Records)
Polyphonia- Illuminati (Dropout Records)
The Replicants -The Self Revealing Boris (Manic Dragon Records)
Derango - Masterdamnit (Inpsyde Media)
Savage Scream - Acid Clown (Golden Dawn Records)
It's gone from music to madness.
I'm not a fan of Goa Gil's sets these days but the vibes at these parties are always wonderful even though the music has elemets of death and pain. Funny how that works.
I prefer Ariane's Nimba project, it seems to have more of that oldschool 'conga fury'ish tibal goa vibe than the main act.

I havent seen Goa Gil "full of ego" in any way.
What are you talking about there ?
In regards to music, that is down to taste. He should play what he likes, if you really feel saddened by other peoples taste in music perhaps you should re-evaluate your relation to it
After all, in regards to taste, people seldom agree hehe.

My first party was goa gil and no one in the whole wide world can do anything to change what he instilled in me through his music that day .. those magical memories remain with me .. there's something about his persona on stage that leaves you gasping for more of that positive vibration that he is emmitting.. he's no psychedelic genious but he's doing something that he's best at .. keep rocking mr. gill .. ur da man

id like to say a few words about this
i heard about goa gil and was always inspired by the pictures i saw from him, a huge smile in his face, his dreadlocks, the way he dresses, very spiritual and full of nice vibes
he was in argentina in december 2005, we knew he liked dark music, but we were not prepared to what was going to happen. basically the party started with some tunes of nimba, nice music and a nice warmup, and then came goa gil.
wow, thats the word and the expressions our faces had throught all the set. it was 21 hours of madness, absolute madness, from horrible full on sets in all our parties, to 21 hours of the most psychedleic music i ever listened to my life. since 2002 that i didnt feel trance as psychedelic, and with his set i couldnt believe it, i remember trying to twist my body to match the sounds and fx comig out of the speakers, i remember not feeling human at all heheh, it was incredible, a lot of music i didnt know and the guy just standing there, dancing and smiling, destroying the dancefloor.
for me the best part was seeing that goa gil realized that no matter how much you expand your limits, no matter how much you take it to the extreme, you can always take it, you can always go deeper, not even the sun stopped his crazy music, he kept on dancing, moving his dreadlocks and playing with the ego and minds of all the crowd. he understood perfectly that no matter how much you shoot to the mind, you can still take it. bear in mind that here in argentina its was almost the first time night time psytrance was played, so people didnt know it, and they really didnt know what to do. it was surprising that everyone who was there had a strong opinion about his set, no matter if it was good or bad, everyone had to say something about it hehhe. he did not go unnoticed, he really started a new trend in night music here and the people were amazed by this new sounds, no one understood what the f*ck was going on.
so i had to thank this guy for one the most psychedelic experiencies i had in my life, it was a long time since only the music mattered, i didnt even care about the shitty deco, or the shitty organizers, the music was incredible, it blew my head away, it even changed the way i dance and make music.
so a lot of respect for this guy, a lot of love for this guy, i really like what he does. i dont care about dj skills when his mission is so clear and so effective. in fact for me the way he mixes has to do a lot with the trip he makes, you dont understand if the cd is broken or if the track is like that, you dont understand if he is mixing, you dont even know whats going on, its all about destroying the mind to free your spirit, and he really got that .
so once again RESPECT!!!

That's a valid observation of general progression. Wonder how many DJ's wanting to keep up with the trend, still play music that is over 10 years old...

I stupidly missed him when he played in Athens in 1996 (not sure about the year) although I had won a free pass (did not know what I was missing at the time). According to my tastes in psy nowadays his current playlists are full of innovative cutting-edge darkpsy. One thing I know for sure is that he's the dj I would probably would love most to hear.

@ va¤n------- the playlist of 1996 is equally as psychedelic as the playlist in 2006...those days there was very less music being released but whatever it was it was quality stuff...and from what i knw goa gil always had those quality psychedelic journeys in his BAG OF GOODIES.......always great soundscapes
@ rah ---ur observation is WRONG out now

I am not much of a Gil listener. Just getting into it but what I observe from his party videos is that the energy in his parties is something different.....have seen many psy videos but the energy that I see in his parties is something different.
And hez around 60yr old. I mean - hats off to that guy to have such energy at this age!

Its not ONLY a matter of progression, since in Goa Gils chart from 1996 you have both darker and weirder tracks like Orichalcum "Curse of Uqbar", Koxbox "Stratosfear" + Lighter and more uplifting tracks suchs as Doof "Angelina", Juno Reactor "Feel the Universe - Koxbox RMX".
The new stuff is all dark psychedelic madness.
His own statement, in regards to what music he spins, is that he spins cutting edge psychededelic music.
So, for him, that must be the dark psychedelic variant.
However, he also stated that the music & energy from it should change with the position of the sun.
So, as far as I know, he would spin the dark stuff when it was dark and the light stuff when it was light (But, since I wasnt there, I wouldnt know).
Only Goa Gil set I heard was a 6-7 hour all dark one a few years back. (And it was all during the night and indoors).
Anyways, as a DJ he has defined and locked himself into spinning "cutting edge psychedelic trance".
I prefer the access to track selection to be free of definition, so that you can follow your intuition 100% when choosing tracks.
Best Wishes

@Rah- im with you
why would goa gill in his right mind be playing music from 1996 today ?? its ok if he plays a couple of tracks that send us hurling back in time .. every thing moves foward .. and what we keep with us .. is memories .. to remember what the old times were like .. he is just keeping with the times .. thats all ..
And the other stuff about psychedelic madness .. lets not even go there .. all you need is to tune your ears a lil
